Sometimes I smile so much that it hurts my mouth :) and tonight was definitely one of those times. Real were humiliated at home against Sociedad and lost 1-4, gracias to Sociedad for this great end to the season. Now Real finish in fourth and Barca stay in second which means automatic qualification to the Champs league.

Well done to the Barca players for finishin in second after a terrible start to the season.

After a Real Madrid board meeting this morning, the club have decided to sack Carlos Queiroz and appoint Jose Antonio Camacho as the new coach.

President Florentino Perez announced the appointment at a press conference.

:dielaugh::howler:

Someone from Bayern described Real Merda as a monkey tea party and how I agree with that man. :D Real Madrid is an even bigger football circus than Inter. 4th place!!! :howler: For the so-called 'galacticos'!!! :dielaugh: Galacticos my arse. :finger:

Let's see if they will sign Ruud Van Nistelrooy or Thierry Henry or Francesco Totti next. I mean, they fail to outscore Sociedad by not scoring 5. They sure need help on the striker department!!! :D

Valencia offer Benitez deal

Valencia have opened contract negotiations with coach Rafael Benitez in a bid to end speculation linking him to the vacant post at Liverpool.
The Spanish club are keen to extend the 44-year-old's deal, which expires next season, but Benitez's agent remained tight-lipped.

"We spoke to the director but there is nothing to say," agent Manuel Garcia Quilon said.

"We have neither advanced nor backed down. Now it is up to Benitez."

Benitez led Valencia to a remarkable double in the Primera Liga and the Uefa Cup last season.

But his future at the Mestalla remains uncertain as his success has made him one of the most wanted managers in Europe.

Liverpool appear to have set their sights on Benitez as the man to succeed Gerard Houllier.

Inter Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been linked to Benitez in recent weeks.

Samuel: “I came here to win all the titles”

01/07/2004
He is said to be pretty sparing with words, leaving all his fluency (non verbal) to the field, where he expresses himself wonderfully. After signing the papers, the new Madrid defender put on his number 19 white shirt and went down to the pitch to know the stage where he is to bewilder the audience. Before that, he had a brief chat with his admired country man Di Stéfano and appeared before the media in a conference in which, in spite of his sparingness with words, he could not be clearer or more straightforward.

Emilio Butragueño acted as the master of ceremoniesat this press conference, which began with the announcement that the player had passed the medical check-up with very satisfactory results and that he had signed a five-year contract with the Club. ''Today is a good day for Real Madrid, we are all very happy to have him here with us said Butragueño. The white manager also pointed out that it was the beginning of a new adventure for Samuel'' after ''a somehow long process'' Then it was time for the Argentinean player to speak.

-Samuel, has it been a very long wait?
-No, luckily enough, I had the chance to spend some time with my national team, so it did not seem that long in the end. But, I was really looking forward to get everything sorted out and come here. We are all now very happy. I am delighted.

-Why did you renounce the America Cup with Argentina?
-I have not renounce anything. I am just thankful to the coach who was very thoughtful with me, as he could have stuck to the rules and called me. He did it for my good and I must be very thankful.

-Who is your favourite player in Real Madrid?
-I do not have a favourite one in particular, there is a crop of great players, who all together have achieved everything. I will try and do my best with all of them. My interest is in the group rather than in individuals.
-Madrid has been looking for a center-back for a long time. What does this mean to you: pressure, pride
-I am very proud that they have laid their eyes on me. I have met lots of tension in all the clubs I have played for, so I am used to pressure. I am not afraid at all. My purpose is to do good play so that the team wins. I am not here to show off. My job is to defend and help the team win.

-Have you seen Carvalho?
-Yes, I know him, I have seen him playing for Porto. But then, it is up to other people to judge this. If you ask me, I would play with anybody.

-What is your objective coming to Real Madrid?
-I have not won anything for several years, so my objective is to win titles.

-What do you know about Camacho?
-I know he was Spain's coach and he had been coaching Benfica, but I do not have the pleasure of having met him in person.

-You got Cuchu's number, what does this mean?
-I don't mind, I chose it because I had had it with Roma, but if Cuchu had stayed, I would have chosen another number.

-Are you aware that Madrid's defence have been criticized very much over the past few years?
-That's something I can´t understand, because there are some great defenders in this team, I do not know why this has happened. They have won titles and I am here to cooperate and contribute to the team, that's my only intention.

-Which is your favourite team to win Euro 2004?
-Portugal is doing very well, plus they are at home. From the little I have seen, I think they are favourite.

The best signing Real Madrid has done for the last 10 years, no doubt. If they also sign Carvalho, I really wonder what can make them fail to win everything. They have been after Emerson too, so it shows that they are now looking to add players where their weaknesses are.

BUT!!!!!

Helguera would take a step up to defensive midfield with Carvalho.

They should sell Figo though.

Not in terms of shirt revenue though. :D

IMO, Madrid's biggest weakness last season wasn't its defence, but its super thin squad depth. I'm still unconvinced that Samuel will be enough. Their defence was poor even at the beginning of the season but they still manage to do well. But at the latter part of the season, the stars got tired since they can't be substituted for some Borjas or Mejias and that's why they lost point. They need to stock up some more IMO. ;)

 Helguera should play as a DM with Carvalho??? :wth:

IMO, they should keep him unless they can find a suitable replacement (To be Beckham's backup).

Hehe... Notice now that I never finished that sentence. :D I meant that Helguera would take a step up to midfield with Carvalho taking up the central defence spot.

Figo as a back-up? Did I get you right? :D Real Madrid has an incredibly talented right sided player that can play both as midfielder and defender though. Oscar Miñambres is someone I am very fond of.

Misunderstanding. :D

I mean, if they wanna sell Figo, they should be planning to move Becks to the right, right??? They should get a backup for Becks using Figo's transfer revenue. ;) Ah, Minambres. I've heard of him but doesn't see him too often. He was great in one of my old Champ Man game though. :D

Report: Deco To Join Barca On Tuesday
7/3/2004 1:20:00 AM

Reports out of Portugal are suggesting that Barcelona and FC Porto have successfully negotiated a deal to bring Deco to the Nou Camp.
Fernando Gomes, a high ranking FC Porto official, was in Spain on Friday where he met with Barcelona president Joan Laporta and vice-president Sandro Rosell. The meeting reportedly lasted two hours and here’s what the two clubs have agreed on:

Barcelona will pay FC Porto 20 million euros and give FC Porto out-of-favour winger Ricardo Quaresma on loan for one season. GOAL.com can exclusively reveal that Ricardo Quaresma has already agreed to join FC Porto.

So with all that already being official, all that needs to be agreed upon is Deco’s contract with Barcelona. Barca will reportedly double his current salary, an offer that the Portuguese international will likely not pass up.

When asked about his pending move to Barcelona Deco said, “we will talk about Barcelona after Euro 2004.”

Deco has gone on record in the past as saying he has always dreamed of playing for Barcelona.

================================================

I don't get this. Deco is a world-class playmaker, Ronaldinho is probably the best playmaker in the world now. How would they accomodate them both? Deco won't agree to a bench role, and guess what also, they already signed Giuly. I guess Barca are infected with our 'have needlessly two world-class players in a position' syndrom.

In terms of positioning, I think Barca can accomodate both Ronaldinho & Deco in their line-up. Ronaldinho is playing on the left flank and Deco is more to the central. But it's hard to guess who will be the playmaker since Ronaldinho is a playmaker at Barca. Not to mention, they have Xavi who is defensive playmaker. My guess is that Ronaldinho will be removed from his playmaking duties and asked to play as a support striker behind Larsson or Saviola. Deco will be the playmaker with Xavi. But the 2 latest transfers done by Barca has really amazed me. They could have gone for someone better & with more future than Larsson and they need a central defender more than Deco.

Deco will surely be in the middle cuz he played a lot in central midfield. But i wonder will Xavi be able to do all the work in the middle in terms of winning balls and commanding the team..? Since this isnt what he favors, because he likes to play as an attacking one..

I dont doubt RIjkaard and thats why i think they will suit each other very well..But still i think they must find a true ball winner.

I don't get why Deco is needed when Ronaldinho is already there. It will be interesting to see the formation Rijkaard is thinking of using for next season. As for Larson it is surely a short term solution as Trezeguet was the main target but stayed coz of Capello.

The font in Atletico's jersey looked ugly IMO. :yuck: But I think it's La Liga's font, not Nike's.

I have to admit that the Atletico shirt looks pretty good. The new Barca shirt is ok too, I will prob get it when I go to barcelona and will prob get Saviola on the back.
