One great pic. :D

Ben, signing Ruud now will cause more hard than signing Becks and letting Hierro & Makelele go. But, it could be Perez's way of getting votes from the socios (Who buys everything the media wrote) in the upcoming presidential election.

Liga Report: Zidane Off As Luckless Real Suffer Another Blow
Deportivo - Real Madrid | Latest News | Match Report | News Archive

Capdevila hit a stunner (AFP)
05/01/2004. Real Madrid's Liga hopes hang by a thread after a 2-0 defeat to Deportivo at the Riazor.

Diego Tristan gave the Galicians the lead, and Joan Capdevila doubled the advantage after the break.

Zinedine Zidane was sent-off after receiving two yellow cards in the first-half.

Real hit the woodwork no fewer than three times in the first-half. Luis Figo's right wing cross was fired on to the post by Esteban Cambiasso after just five minutes.

Michel Salgado then shot inches over the bar as Real started the more impressively.

But Depor took the lead on 28 minutes. Sergio's shot was saved by Iker Casillas after a swift counterattack, but Tristan was on hand to convert the rebound.

Ronaldo, clearly not match fit, beat the offside trap on 38 minutes but his shot struck the outside of the post as Real's poor fortune continued.

After Alberto Luque had it the side netting, Zinedine Zidane was given his marching orders for a tackle from behind on Djalminha. The Frenchman had already been shown a yellow card after persistent fouling.

It was Raul's turn to hit the woodwork seconds later after Hector inexplicably presented him with the ball on the edge of the box. Raul unleashed a fierce effort that hit the bar and went over.

After the break, Ronaldo saw an effort blocked by the legs of Molina, who then saved a header from Raul.

Ronaldo was guilty of heading a great chance well wide on 50 minutes, as Real's chances continued to come thick and fast.

Tristan displayed some great footwork shortly afterwards, but his close-range shot was saved by Casillas, and he couldn't convert the rebound.

Casillas had to be on his mettle to come out and save a shot from the same player seven minutes later.

The game was over as a contest on 68 minutes when Capdevila drilled home an unstoppable free-kick that Casillas had no chance of saving.

David Beckham was substituted for Santi Solari in the second half, and the England captain appeared to say 'why me?' to coach Carlos Queiroz as he went to take his place on the bench.

Real still trail Valencia by a point, with the Ches hosting Betis on Sunday evening.

Hopefully Valencia can take advantage of this slip up by Real and move further ahead or maybe they will lose too and Barca can move closer to the top :D

I'm feeling really confident in my bet that Real wouldn't win anything this year thanks to their hella shaky defense :star:

Come on Valencia make my dream come true :D

Valencia won so I think they have the title now which means Real win nothing this season :) Hopefully Real will slip up again and Barca can pass them and move into second. This would be a great acheivement from where we were in Dec/Jan.

Congratulations Valencia. A text-book classic case of what a team means, not a team of stars but a star of a team.

Congratulations to Valencia on their 6th La Liga title!!! IMO, the key players were Vicente, Mista and Baraja. The classic classic example that a team needs hard-working players, consistency & continuity more than superstars.

This sums it all up at the Valencia camp:

DAVID ALBELDA-" Here at Valencia, we, the players, make decisions on the pitch not the MONEY MEN. Our team spirit pulled us through.Even though there seems to be an external force hindering us(particularly a blatant penalty decision in the 90th minute for Real at Bernabeu), nothing beats our togetherness"---Reuterz

And to cool_emre: Who are you trying to kid?If you predicted a porto monaco final, I predicted that Adriano would score a freekick against Parma on May 9 2004 at the San Siro..... :dielaugh: :dielaugh:

Valencia!!!

:star::star::star::star::star::star:

IMO Vicente is one of the best players in the world. He is so impressive! But Valencia won not only because of their superior class. They defeated the favouritism from the refs towards The Starsuckers/bribing from The Starsuckers that could have seen them win at a crucial point of the season. Yes it was the socalled penalty they got vs. Valencia I am talking about. AMAZING!!!

If you think that the penalty Real got against Valencia in the Bernabau was dubiuos, wait till you see the penalty they got at Sevilla. Plus, the linesman disallowed an absolutely perfect goal by Valencia because of offside yesterday when it is crystal clear no-replay-needed that the goal was legit. It reminds me of some of the Germans I know who said this to me before the WC 02 Semi-Final match against Korea (Who was heavily favoured by the referee): "We're gonna scored so many goals it won't matter if a few are disallowed!!!"

yes I did :D
I wasn't "predicting", but "expecting"
with Inter out of the race, I could not root for the big teams..
and with teams available and the schedules, i was expecting....
Porto-Monaco final....!

I just want no big team to win the trophy, so I expected any team from soccer super power country to be out of the race as well...

you can check it at CL forum.. :)

Atletico owner Gil passes away
Saturday, 15 May 2004
Atletico Madrid are a club in mourning after owner Jesus Gil lost his fight for life in Friday.

Gil, who was once the mayor of Marbella, died on Friday evening following a six-day fight for life.

The 71-year-old suffered a massive stroke on Sunday and was admitted to a local hospital before being transferred to Madrid's Cemtro clinic.

Gil was connected to a ventilator for much of the week but he failed to respond and passed away on Friday.

His funeral is due to take place this Saturday and the team's fixture with Real Zaragoza has been switched back to Sunday.

Gil, who stepped down as the club's president in the summer of 2003, was a hugely respected figure in Spanish football and his death has left many in a state of shock.

Players, coaches and officials from clubs around Spain and Europe have paid tribute to Gil.

Chelsea coach Claudio Ranieri worked under Gil at Atletico and had the utmost respect for him.

"He was superb to me through difficult times," Ranieri told Radio Marca. "He wanted to make a great team with me and in the end he requested me to sell players because he said that the banks had blocked things.

"He was a good man, a man who behaved well."

Jesus Gil is one of the most, if not the most, controversial president in the world of football. I don't love him nor hate him. But I just wanna say, "Rest In Peace."
