All coaches bear responsibility on their results, yes there have been many coaches and many players that have come through Inter but thats like saying its not the players fault for playing bad its because he is at Inter he is playing bad. The Inter environment is not the easiest but players / coaches have to come in and if they are good enough they will at least try.

Many times during the season he gets the formation wrong, plays the wrong players or makes subs late, thats all him.

New coach, same shit. *SHOCKING*

We're gonna overlook this and put the blame squarely on Spalletti's shoulders, but truth be told, a change in management would help us more than a coaching change ever would. Their decision not to invest in January after barely doing so in the summer needs to be realized and criticized more.

I don't think it's fair to blame everything 100% on the squad. Different coaches getting similar results isn't necessarily symptomatic.
Spalletti makes wrong tactical choices all the damn time, these are nigh objective facts. And half the damn starters in the squad are completely new players. Everyone was aware that we were playing very subpar football even in the first third of the season when we were racking up wins, except luck was on our side.

On the other hand, it's very clear that we have about 7 or 8 people in the first team who simply do not have what it takes to play football professionally. New transfers in june are a must, but I feel it's even more necessary to get rid of these players who never really contribute anything, even at the cost of having to put some primavera kids in instead. D'ambrosio, Candreva, Ranno and Santon simply have to go. It's still a bit early to talk about Gagliardini but he isn't much to write home about either.

At this point I really don't understand what was Spalletti's long term plan. He must've seen this coming but I was always thinking that insisting on the same line up in the first third of the season was just a temporary patch-up while more complex things were being rehearsed. At this point it's very hard to deduce whether it's him who is insisting on this stupidly uncreative wayu of playing football or if he is actually trying to hammer in something into the player's heads but they are just so incapable of soaking in new ways.

This post treble era is definitely worse than the 90s. At least in the 90s, we still managed to attract big players (Ronaldo, Vieri, Zamorano, Baggio, Simeone, etc), had a few good seasons challenging for the Scudetto (96/97 and 97/98 that I can remember), and even doing well in Europe (winning the UEFA cup on 2 or 3 occasions? I can only remember the Bergkamp season and Fenomeno season). Had a decent Champions League season in 98/99 too. Were unfortunate to lose to Man Utd in the Quarter Finals as we wasted too many good chances over the two legs. Worth mentioning that Simeone's disallowed goal in the first leg at Old Trafford.

Now, the post treble period though.

SHIT FOOTBALL. SHIT PLAYERS. SHIT RESULTS. SHIT MANAGERS. SHIT MANAGEMENT.

That’s coach job, build a chemistry. This Inter obviously needs clean up but still, those teams we are facing aren’t World class and we have to do better job.

We have some limited players but Rafinha is the best example how slow we are playing under Spaletti, he’s in constant movement, playing on first most of the time but rest of the team doesn’t move. You can see how frustrated he is. I don’t know what are they doing in practice but we’re getting worse how time goes and that’s worrying.

We can’t find better coach from Spaletti at the moment though. Maybe we can add somebody to his coaching team to raise team morale. Baggio or Materazzi maybe, so they can took over for 2-3 yrs.

We often ignore one important aspect in this issue. Players are human being. Before a coach can actually improve the chemistry of the team, players got to lower their ego and start listening.

We have seen this team had cohesion in the beginning of the season when we wrote a history, yet it disappeared all of a sudden. I think there are players who put their ambition higher than the club’s. I suspect when things didnt go our way, players start to find a scapegoat and start blaming each other in the dressing room. At the end of the day, this team is a group of young players in their 20s, the usual time people have their highest ego and think they know all. On the other hand, the older players are not typical of leader who could tell these childish divas to stfu and start working better. We used to have cuchu, jz and matrix to do this. Now, if there is a conflict between players, who is gonna settle it? I doubt anyone listens to Icardi, he even brought it to social media :palm: . Miranda and Handanovic are not a leader type. I think this team main problem is personality more than technical or mentality.

Remember how they boycotted Frank De Boer? It started after De Boer penalised Boozovic and players didnt like it. This season is similar to Pioli’s era. A fine run in the beginning then sudden switch off. The same problem in Mancini’s era, after the loss to Lazio, players had problems among them and started a tension with Mancini as well.

We can see that the only player who tries hard to connect with other players is Rafinha. Why? Because he is the newest. I think the dressing room is divided into few groups and they need to break the ice. Remember we used to have team managers like Cordoba and Deki whose duties I never really understand but I think they were supposed to settle these issues.

Yes it is down to Spalletti but the players need to first believe in him, just like how a patient should trust his doctor. Then the management should play an important role to tell these players to stfu as well.

Spalletti: 'Inter struggle to react'
By Football Italia staff

Luciano Spalletti insists the Inter performance when losing 2-0 to Genoa “wasn’t particularly bad, but it’s difficult to react to setbacks.”

The Nerazzurri have one win in over two months, against nine-man Bologna, and seemed devoid of ideas in tonight’s 2-0 defeat.

It has been a remarkable turnaround, as Inter were unbeaten in their first 15 competitive games of the season, but since the 5-0 victory over Chievo on December 3, managed only one win in 90 minutes between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, drawing eight and losing three.

“Clearly, when you go behind on the stroke of half-time to an incident like that, when already going through a rough time, your confidence is going to be hit,” Spalletti told Mediaset Premium of the Andrea Ranocchia own goal.

“We tried to stay in the game, but we needed more balance and calm on the ball. We can’t seem to do that the way we should and when incidents go against us, we lack the calm to turn things around.

“The team didn’t put in a particularly bad performance tonight. We just needed to stay in the game and pounce on the right moment to go in front. We did have a couple of chances, but the own goal created problems.

“We must be able to grow gradually, as it’s difficult to just do a handbrake turn. We’ve got to stay in the zone moment by moment, until our determination is rewarded.

“When moving the ball around, we need to choose the right moment and be precise, otherwise everything becomes more difficult. We certainly deserved more in the second half, but Genoa were in the lead, so they could sit back and soak up the pressure comfortably.

“The first half didn’t have a lot of quality, but it was balanced. We were waiting to raise the tempo at the right moment, but then the own goal changed it. At this moment, it becomes difficult to mount a reaction.

“We are fragile right now and that makes it difficult for us to react to setbacks. There is no other solution than to believe in the potential of the team, believing that the journey ahead can get us back on track and maintain a position in the table that allows us to stay in the running for the top spots.

“We always worked well, I didn’t see particular errors, but we had chances. Samir Handanovic basically didn’t have to make a save, whereas Mattia Perin did.”

Didn't see the match, what kind of performance did the team give?

The usual. We won the possession and thats it. In every other aspect of the game we sucked donkey balls.

The 2.5 month downfall is not his fault but he isn't doing himself any justice so far with the team's recovery.
The players seem uninspired and lack motivation. Our midfield is constantly overrun and our flanks cannot seem to attack anymore with the (central) midfield lined up that way, so it's awkward to not see any changes there.

"Reacting" when the opponent is content with the score and not being able to penetrate the defence even once for a decent goal scoring attempt is not enough. Any team could do that. And we're still predictable.

A reshuffling is needed and when Icardi returns he and Eder should both start up front and Spalletti needs to find a way to make the midfield more concrete.

We are going to finish the season behind Milan, aren't we... For two and a half months now this guy has no idea how to pick up this team from the ashes, we look just more and more clueless with every passing game.. Terrible decisions by the management are the main problem but Spalletti also looks absolutely clueless now, fielding midfield consisting of Vecino, Gaglia and Borja is just pathetic, we get outplayed by teams consisting of Inter rejects..

Don't know where are we going with this kind of perfomances, it just looks like we can't beat even the weakest teams in the league.. On the paper we are still in the position to qualify for CL but with the way we've played against SPAL, Crotone, Bologna and Genoa is there anyone who still believes in the CL qualification..

Yeah, it's a tough situation. When the group is in this kind of mental block, it's just hard to get out of it. There is surely quality to do more than what Inter has done in the last 2 months, looking the names in the teams one by one.

Spalletti clearly doesn't have the means to unlock this block, but I'd say most probably there aren't coaches in the market who has. We were never any kind of juggernauth even if we marched from victory to victory in the start of the season. Now the downside of our playstyle is here. The victories boosted our confidence but when things started to go against us (lack of good playstyle from the start of the season), the confidence was destroyed. And now we can't get out of the pit because there's no working playstyle to give support.

1. some of the problems are on Spalletti. some questionable subs, his unchanged 4 2 3 1, and players management. however, as we have seen for 3 or 4 years our issue lies more on mentality. some players are just fucked up in the head.

2. we must stick with Spallo now and for next season. he needs time. a proven good coach. and give all what he wants in this summer.

3. we extremely need to clean the house. imo there are some primadonas in the team who cause ruckus in dressing room . get rid all of those self centered fuckers. it might bring more stable environment.

1. I can see Spallo to go with his 4231 tactics to end off the season and have no impact to team performances whatsoever. Some of us has doubts of his ability to motivate players or his tactical ability, but many members has good memories about his succes at Roma!

2. At summer first we make news to players like Sanchez... but in the end after 4 months of long negoations we will overpay for that Lautaro dude and trible his wages and when he flops we have hard time to loan him out!

3. Ausilio will make comments like ”we alreydy have good foundation, but for ffp reasons (what he have created) we have to sell before buy” and we will sell Icardi and Skriniar for first bidder! And same time we will start to operate new contracts to Eder, Ranocchia, Santon and others! Everyone is happy and everyone got paid good money!

4. Nice guys Javier and Steven are smiling to the cameras at Appiano and Sabatini will smoke some cigarettes and still nobody know who is in charge or have clear idea what the plan is?

5. Then at 2019 if we are lucky we are still figthing for 7-10 places and maybe get quarterfinal for coppa Italia?

I believe our dip in performance has more to do with the pre-season training than with a sudden loss of confidence by the players. I mean, our season can be divided into two parts, and it's undeniable that the main difference between the two, results aside, is that we can no longer run as we used to. Let's be frank, we never played good football (Sampdoria and Chievo are the only exceptions that come to mind), and our game plan has always relied massively on our ability to outmuscle the opponents. In fact, I think Spalletti did this on purpose; he opted for a light training regime during the pre-season to get the team match fit as quickly as possible (hence our triumphal Asian tour and the initial winning streak), hoping to buy himself time to conjure a more elaborate game plan for when the general fitness of the team would wear off. The problem is it never happened, we still play like shit and, now that we have lost the only edge we had over the opponents, we are completely clueless.
That being said, it's also true that he could have come up with something in the past two months instead of playing the same fucking line-up week in week out... I know our roster is incomplete, ill-assorted and full of mediocre players, but we're talking about a man who came up with Totti false 9 (ended up winning the golden boot) and when Totti got injured he made it still work with Perrotta... come on, he's paid to get the best out of this bunch of fuckers. And, however mediocre they may be, that doesn't excuse the shitshow we watch every weekend.
