There were some really great stats to take from the Genoa game, like the fact that they didn't have one shot on target all game. Another positive is that we were able to generate 20 shots during the match, only out-done by Cagliari who had 22 shots overall in their game against Bologna. So yeah, defensively we were strong, and we were creating shooting chances.
However, there is a huge problem in attack. It is not so much that we are lacking passing accuracy in the final third, it's in the final 18 yards is where our passing accuracy goes to shit. In the diagram below you'll be able to see where the vast majority of our possession is wasted:
Key:
Successful
Unsuccessful
Goal assist
Chance created
I feel like if we want to be title contenders we need to be a lot more direct around the box. I found it very lackadaisical at times when players passed straight to a Genoa defender, even at 0-0. So I think Mazzarri needs to tighten up the passing and the general play in the opposition box, especially against Juventus, were every goal scoring opportunity must be taken.
A few more interesting stats:
> Mazzarri has only beaten Catania once, back in 2007 with Reggina.
> Inter have scored in each of their last 15 meeting with Catania. (37 in total)
> Catania have beaten Inter 5 times, all of which have been at home.
