Icardi: ‘Always wanted Inter’

Mauro Icardi notes his Inter renewal is “always what I said I wanted” after committing until 2021.

The striker was linked with a move away this summer, with Napoli interested and his agent declaring that his Nerazzurri contract was inadequate.

“As I’ve always said, this is what I wanted,” Icardi told Inter Channel.

“There was a lot of talk, which is normal in the transfer market, but I always said I wanted to stay and we started looking for an agreement with the club.

“Today it all becomes official. I’ve always been calm, in the interviews I’ve conducted so far I’ve told you that. I’ve always got on well with the people here, I only thought about doing things well.

“I hope to lift trophies, it won’t be easy to replicate what [Javier] Zanetti did, but I’m here to score goals and help the team and if we win some trophies then even better.

Is he really earning €5.5m now? That's fucking obscene. What was he previously earning? Something still obscene no doubt. You gotta be honest though, it's hard for Icardi to stack up against the other players with similar wages. The way he played against juve? That's a player worthy of €5.5m per season. But that's the one and only time I've seen him play at that level. I'm not saying he needs to play like that every single match, but he needs to make that closer to his mean performance.

Regardless, I hope he continues scoring goals and all. How he plays from now until his next contract will determine if he's worth all the fuss. I honestly don't like Icardi, his style of play nor his character. I doubt I will ever like his character but maybe his style of play will grow on me. Oh well, if he remains as he is and does his job only to be sold, I won't cry a river. However, if he doesn't do shit after this and then gets sold, I would be elated. Whatevs! Forza Inter!

A few barbs today between Maradona and Icardi.

Icardi had a relationship with Wanda Nara, who was then married to his Sampdoria team-mate Lopez, in 2013, with the couple later marrying and having a child together.

And Maradona made his feelings about his compatriot clear in a press conference held on Monday ahead of a 'Match for Peace' event organised by the Vatican.

"I don’t know if Icardi will be called-up for the national team,” Maradona told reporters.

“I don’t speak about traitors. I’m here for the Match for Peace, and Icardi has nothing to do with it."

The 23-year-old later responded to his fellow Argentine's comments, telling Sky Sport 24: "Maradona is not an example to anyone. His words are not compatible with peace."
