What do you think those other two in the front three are? Defenders or something?

They're not striker partners. I do get what he's talking about as in some games Icardi gets so isolated and needs another striker alongside him to open up space.

Sure they are, my god that's the whole point!

There's a big difference between wide wingers and second strikers.

Ugh forget it

Even FDB has said in an interview that Icardi might thrive more when he has a strike partner. Having a SS to cross paths with tonight might have helped Icardi get space from Manolas

Did I ever argue against that or say otherwise? Sure I've been saying as much ad naseum. Listen my point is real simple, play 4-3-3 & there's your much sought after support, not only will Icardi have one partner but two. Have none of you watched Napoli, Sassuolo or something?

It's a question of proximity not numbers, jesus how hard is this to get

As I said, neither Perisic nor Candreva have the movement of a second striker. Icardi needs someone to help peeling away the centre backs, something those 2 players wouldn't do.

His best formation would be a 4-4-1-1 (strike partner + two good wingers), but our midfield isn't good enough to play with 2 CMs. It's borderline mediocre with 3 CMs.

Whether it's best for him to have two wingers or 1 striker partner, is debatable and it depends on the opposition. Against Rube he actually excelled with 4-3-3, but against Pescara he needed Palacio.

Nonsense. Sure they would, if instructed to. Besides their mere position as well as movement in a 4-3-3 would drag centre backs away.

When did a midfield three of Banega Medel J Mario become mediocre? I must have missed something.

He ran, he fought, he tried, he was a little short at the end when Jovetic gave him a chance.

But I think that he has to work on his deplacements when his partners crosses the ball, keep moving guy, trick your defenders, take them with you to open some possibilities for the others and don't count on your headers everytime, I want him to score more goals like Dzeko, be prompt, pass before your defenders.

And learn how to cover the ball when not facing the goal, protecto the ball and know how to make your teamates join you in the attacking front.

The attitude is good, he needs to developp his game reading.

Wife and agent of Icardi: "I really think that the renewal for his contract is done. We are all very happy."

yeah, i think gabriel might be worth trying there (jovetic is a ball hog 90% of the time)

Its a non runner anyway. It's either 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 for us. Somehow I think if you play 4-3-3 Icardi will be less isolated. This just keep crossing it to Icardi stuff is real predictable & quite easy to defend against, just ask Fazio.

Point is that we've been playing with a wide 4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1 all this season. We're not gonna play a narrow 4-3-3 because both Candreva and Perisic are best when used in wide positions, unless we play with Jovetic, Icardi and Gabigol and bench Perisic and Candreva, which is not gonna happen.
