I know you're all desperately craving for a rightback with creativity and even an ounce of offensive credibility, and that's ultimately why you are praising this guy, but what you're seeing in Cancelo isn't actually that. He's a pacy player with the ability to (sometimes) beat his man off the dribble, but his effectiveness going forward and ability to link-up even compared to someone like D'Ambrosio (with Candreva) leaves a lot to be desired. His crossing is extremely limited, and with our current gameplan, if you can't even do that, what's the point?
On the other hand, defensively, he is as limited as they come. Look at him not following Bonaventura in the 3-2 Milan Derby. Look at him being caught in no man's during Falcinelli's header and in the same game being as close to conceding a penalty and getting away with it as you can get in the modern game. Look at him being utterly destroyed by Bonaventura in a 1v1 header in the latest Coppa game. And so forth.
He might've done a nifty tackle in one of those games, but his tactical awareness is close to zero. It might be more than good enough for Valencia, but it sure isn't good enough for the Italian game.
Anyway, what I write or any of you write doesn't really matter -I refuse to believe this club chooses to blow its whole summer-transfer budget on a player who can at most be categorized as decent in a position where we're not exactly lacking players.
