:star: Verdict is out tomorrow and it wont effect the list submitted to Uefa.

taly FA boss snubs Berlusconi's call for leniency

ROME, July 13 (Reuters) - The head of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has snubbed calls by the country's former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi for leniency towards clubs involved in the Serie A match-fixing trial.

"I'm not interested in what he says. I've got my own job to do," said Guido Rossi on Thursday, responding to claims by Berlusconi earlier in the day that sanctions against clubs would hit innocent fans the hardest.

Berlusconi is the owner and president of AC Milan, one of four clubs from Italy's top division -- along with Juventus, Fiorentina and Lazio -- accused of trying to influence the appointment of match officials for games during the 2004-05 season.

Twenty-five individuals, including club and federation officials, referees and linesmen, are also awaiting the verdicts of the trial, which are expected on Friday or Saturday.

"We will not accept punishments against the fans, the teams, when the people who should be punished are the individuals that made the mistakes," said Berlusconi.

"I'm not talking only on behalf of Milan, but also on behalf of the fans of Juventus, Fiorentina and Lazio who have written to me."

If found guilty, Juventus could be relegated to Italy's third division or lower and be stripped of the Serie A titles they won in 2005 and 2006.

The other three clubs risk relegation to Italy's second-tier Serie B. Individuals face bans from the sport.

In the wake of Italy's World Cup victory several Italian politicians, including the country's Justice Minister Clemente Mastella, have called for a general amnesty for all those facing charges.

The scandal broke in early May with the publication of intercepted telephone conversations between former Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi and senior FIGC officials discussing refereeing appointments during the 2004-05 season.

lol good point I think the statements from members of FIGC towards lienency and amnesty has given us a boost. I question you guys though do you want to see Milan & Juve relegated because they are rivals or because they cheated and you want to see the league done right?

I want this because its needed to fix our league not because it is Milan & Gobbi. If it was just Fiorentina & Lazio or even some crap like Livorno I still would want the same punishments to fix the league.

No one mentioned it, except Moratti. I hope they are, but I will be mad if they hand them to Bilan :yuck:

Sentenze: finirà così
Moggiopoli: stasera il presidente della Caf Ruperto leggerà i verdetti in diretta tv. Juve, Fiorentina e Lazio in B, Milan in A ma senza Champions

From Gazzetta.

Not exaclty the best we could of hoped for. It says Juve, Lazio and Viola all in B. Juve with 16 points or so reduction and Lazio/Fiorentina with a 6 point reduction.

Milan stays in Serie A, maybe point reduction and maybe no Champions league for them.

from Reuters:

Italy's World Cup triumph in Germany has prompted calls for a general amnesty, but FIGC commissioner Guido Rossi has consistently rejected the idea.

All those found guilty can appeal, but the appeals process must be completed by July 25 -- the deadline set by UEFA for the FIGC to submit the list of teams for next season's Champions League and UEFA Cup competitions.

All I can say is, for me, the decision today matters a little, unless the verdict is for all to be forgiven and forgotten, because there is still a bribery negotiation period that last until the 25th-27th of July, the day where all appeal processes must be submitted and where the decisions on those appeals would be made.

Don't celebrate yet even if, tonight, we see punishments like "All four clubs involved are to be exterminated from the face of God's Green Earth and all of their Scudettos are awarded to Inter" because, from what we've seen, when money & Maserati talks, everything is possible.

FOX:

Trial into Italy's match-fixing scandal wraps up

ROME (AP) - The sports trial in Italy's soccer scandal wrapped up Friday as the seven judges retired to deliberate on the fate of four top soccer clubs facing demotion to lower divisions on match-fixing charges.

Lead judge Cesare Ruperto said it could take from three to 15 days (posted 2 hours ago) for verdicts.

Prosecutors are seeking demotion for Juventus to Serie C - the third division- or lower; and for AC Milan, Fiorentina and Lazio to be relegated to Serie B. They are also seeking to strip Juventus, the club at the center of the scandal, of the league titles it won in the past two seasons.

Twenty-five soccer officials - including referees - also face charges of match-fixing and disloyalty at the tribunal set up by the Italian soccer federation at the Olympic stadium. The officials could be banned from holding jobs in soccer.

Ruperto dismissed the claim that summary justice would be handed down in the worst scandal in Italian soccer history.

"Some say that the sentence has already been written," Ruperto told the lawyers and prosecutors before closing the trial. "If that is so we invite them to hand it over, to save us some work."

In the final session, a lawyer for former Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi defended the man at the center of the scandal.

Moggi and former Juventus chief executive Antonio Giraudo are accused of creating a network of contacts with federation officials to influence refereeing assignments and get players booked. The two resigned in May, along with the club's entire board.

Moggi, who defended himself in a TV interview last week, never showed up at the trial and his lawyer Paolo Trofino told the tribunal Friday that it was to avoid "further stress."

Trofino asked the judges to throw out the charges on technical grounds, arguing that Moggi could not be subject to a sports tribunal as he had resigned and was no longer employed in soccer. He also said the sports trial should have been suspended, pending the result of criminal investigations into the scandal.

A similar request was already rejected at the start of the trial. The judges said they will rule on this repeated request when they issue their final verdict.

Prosecutors in Naples, Rome, Parma and Turin are conducting separate criminal probes into sports fraud, illegal betting and false bookkeeping - but any indictments could take months to be issued.

Lawyers for Juventus have acknowledged that contacting refereeing officials was unsportsmanlike - but deny match-fixing. They say that demotion to the second division would be an "acceptable" sanction.

Also on trial is former federation president Franco Carraro - who resigned in May - plus Milan vice president Adriano Galliani, Fiorentina owner Diego Della Valle and Lazio President Claudio Lotito.

These officials and clubs have denied any wrongdoing and asked the charges to be dismissed.

The soccer federation had initially said a verdict would come before the World Cup final on Sunday, pitting Italy against France. But the slow pace of the trial has shelved that timetable.

Appeals would have to be heard by the end of July - the deadline for deciding European competitions.

Less than 30min to go until the first verdict -

Old Lady to go down

Juventus likely to be out of the top-flight for at least two seasons

Paul Doyle

Juventus, Fiorentina and Lazio will all be demoted to Serie B for their roles in the match-fixing scandal that has tarnished Italian football, according to today's Gazzetta dello Sport.
The verdict of the long-running trial will not be officially revealed until 6pm this evening, but the newspaper claimed to already know the punishments that will be dished out.
"The verdict will be this: Juventus, Fiorentina and Lazio will be relegated to Serie B," claimed the Gazzetta confidently. "AC Milan will stay in Serie A but will not be allowed to take part in the Champions League."
Without disclosing its source, the newspaper went on to insist it even knew the point deductions that each club would receive. Juventus, it said, will begin their Serie B campaign on minus 20 points, while Fiorentina will be penalised 10 and Lazio six or seven. Milan, meanwhile, will be docked 10 to 15 points.
After the verdict is formally announced tonight, the teams will have three days to appeal to a federal court of arbitration; a final decision must be reached by July 24.
The confirmation that three of the clubs are to be relegated is likely to spark a feeding frenzy as Europe's biggest teams close in to snatch talents such as Fabio Cannavaro, Gianluca Zambrotta and Gianluigi Buffon from Juventus and last season's Serie A top-scorer, Luca Toni, from Fiorentina.
