If I'm not mistaken, it was the 90s and there were serious problems between us and Russia. Even the possibility of war was being discussed. Back then USA clearly stated that they would not get involved in a war that might break out between Turkiye and Russia.

Not really. USA always supported Turkey and Greece. In fact, Truman Doctrine protected Greece and Turkey from Soviet takeover. That's how NATO was created.

Take a look at Russia’s region and see what happens to the countries who attempted democracy and kicking out their corrupt pro-Russian governments.

Parts of Georgia were annexed in 2008 following the Rose Revolution.

Ukraine was annexed in 2014 following the Maidan Protests.

When Armenia has its Velvet Revolution in 2018, Russia attacked through its partner Azerbaijan and ethnically cleansed over 100k people, and it threatens more invasions. Just the other day, the head of Russia Today said Armenia will be eradicated within 5 years if it continues its pro-Western trajectory.

Moldova too remains remains carved up thanks to Russia.

And this is saying nothing of all the treats to Finland, Poland, The Baltics ect…

On the other hand, take a look at how America treats countries it has 100% control over: after WW2 it nursed Japan into being an economic rival and a regional superpower, it did the same to Germany too: America’s allies in Asia and Europe actually feel safe because of the protection offered.

Other than Belarus, Russia doesn’t have actual allies in its region, just countries it has threatened into submission.
