Easier to ask the questions are some of us are familiar with the city without being from there :)

For some reason, I started reading some old transfer threads during my lunch break today.

Some members excited by the signing of Vecino, yet others not wanting him near the club. People not knowing who Martinez is, but optimistic. Doubt over the potential of Skriniar and Hazard. Some (including me) protesting the idea of signing Mascherano after the treble. There are some fun reads in there.

The doubts around Hazard being a good signing still haunt me. I remember Zanetti carrying on about him in an interview after having to defend against him in one of our glorious European ventures back in the day.

I was so sure we were going to sign Hazard. I remember there being quite a lot of rumours during the post-treble season. He was a beast at Lille.

Skriniar was a funny one. How many of us were pessimistic without even watching him play lol. Mind you we paid a big fee for him at the time.

Sadly i joined too late to enjoy peak banter era transfer threads but one of my favorite moments was forum meltdown when we missed on Schick.

Irony was that I started that transfer Thread. How young and naive I was

Schick in the right environment could flourish. Funny thing, Inter of back then - no, but Inter in 2023 for sure.

Or we could just accept that we overrated him a ton and he was just a one season wonder...

I don't want to say things like that because there are a lot of horror stories in football. Players that would've been a lot better if they only got the proper chance and were put in the league and team where they can play to their full potential.

Inter gave Icardi and Martinez a proper chance, but on the other hand we also don't trust our youngsters all that much and we also didn't really believe in Coutinho. Ofc it's hard to say which players would pan out, coaches try summer camps to see if there are any gems in the club, but even that doesn't really show everything the coach and staff wants to know.

There are so many footballers that actually can ball. They just need to get into the right club at the right time. Which is kinda why you can still see some "bad" players playing better in a different club or "good" players being shit somewhere else.

TL;DR Schick is a good football player, I could see him being a beast in current Inter team.

Not that i disagree with the notion of right time right place makes a huuge difference... But i also tend to think that talent usually shows if the player has the right mentality/work ethic....
Honestly i just dont see it in schick... Imho his ceeling is being a good sub for a team like inter or a starter for a team like roma but i doubt he d be a star in any bigger club....

Just my two cents i dont really get why we still believe hype players who ve had 2 good seasons out of the last 7......

Also for every coutinho example there are multiple Santons/Juan jesuses/ murillos, rickys, dalmats, emre as in players who looked good for one or two seasons got all the support they needed and none of them ever reached the hype we initial bought into...
Yes we can make excuses for all of em but fact is none of them reache the hights we initially thought they could no matter where they played...

The issue with Schick isn't the right environment but more about the player himself. He has always been too injury prone to maintain any level of consistency. Moments of brilliance here and there but whenever he started playing well he would get injured and had to start over. We can argue Roma wasn't a good environment for him but Leipzig and Leverkusen should have been ideal but for him. He didn'tt flourish there either. He has had just one top season in Germany, due to injuries and inconsistency. Even in that top season he still had some injury issues.

In the current Inter perhaps Schick could be useful if he had limited playing time and mostly came on as a sub. But he could also end up another Arnautovic.

Well I agree with all that is said, ofc, that can be said for any injury-prone player.

I'm just trying to say that if injuries wouldn't be a problem, he is pretty much a natural talent at attacking the goal.

I was against signing Eto’o at the time. I also thought Juve got the better AM in Diego when we ended up with Sniejder.

Why didn't you want Eto'o? He was coming from a fantastic season at Barcelona.

Eto'o was my favorite forward at the time and i was delighted when we signed him. My only concern was his ego was too big and could cause issues with Mourinho.

I understand why you considered Diego a better deal than Sneijder. Diego was coming from great seasons at Werder while Sneijder was struggling at Real and he wasn't even very keen on the move.

The treble signing i was against was Pandev. I didn't think he had much to offer and expected him to flop.
