why do you keep talking about winning the CL? No one here, as far as I know, thought we were winning the CL. Beating Atletico in R16 isnt the same thing as winning the CL, unless Atletico go on to win this tournament.

I want to do this all over again next year, same approach, first half focus the league, secure the lead. Then shift focus to CL.
The details, the subs, the bench, the quality, the mentality etc. sure everything matters, but the timing for things when they happen, changes the tide.

If you check the Google probability (assuming it is some sophisticated predictive modelling with correct data adjustments, which it seems very much like the case) we never ever had a lower prob than Atletico to win in any point, TILL they score their first goal 2:1 in aggregate, like even when we were at 1:0 in aggregate, we still have a bigger chance to win the away game alone.

To concede right after we score, with 2 blunders in a roll from 2 reliable players.

That was the key to this match. This was always a close tie, and I am sure it was hell of a tie for neutrals to watch.

We won on aways goals, exited by penalties.

In many ways, I like this team and Inzaghi a lot more than our trebles, cause even we "failed", this team gives me the vibe it is not a one off (even Eto'o said it himself, he will not be willing to track back that hard the next season to Jose), it is not the 101% of all they got like all the force on one small focal point to increase PSI, but we are stabile, we are adaptive, we never stop improving, we are not entitled, we play as a team etc.

I see us coming back stronger in CL next year.

Also keep murdering the league for fun, I want to see some kids to get play time, and I want to see anger/strong mentality and show it by ripping Serie A team after this exit.

because the majority was tricked into thinking that we had a chance to win CL, and now they are depressed.

saying no one was hoping or looking forward for Inter winning CL this year is just a lie

nobody cares about advancing post R16 if we don't go on till the end and win, who gives a fuck if we get knocked out in R16 or R8 ?

actually, advancing but not winning would be a terrible thing in our context, it will give suning an excuse to keep selling top players and signing bums for years to come

Our economic well-being.

And while nobody will say "hang the banner" on a quarterfinal or semifinal defeat, it still reflects better on the club the deeper they play into Europe even if it ultimately lands snake eyes. Further, we need to see how we stack up compared to the other big clubs - the Bayern's, Real's, City's, Barcelona's of the world. Steel sharpens steel and all that shit.

Not advancing and not winning means we will NEED to sell more players.

I dont think anyone expected us to win the CL, but itd have been nie to at least get to the QF to see that the quality we see in the league would replicate into europe. Instead one of the most dominant sides in Serie A history cant even beat a teaom from La Liga that might play Europa League next year.

What does Atletico winning it have to do with us potentially winning it?

well, if atletico were to win it, then as a ballpark, suggesting we might have had a chance of winning it if we'd beaten them isnt entirely unreasonable. Getting knocked out by the tournament champions is c'est la vie, R16 or SF.

So if they lose to eventual winners, or if they reach the final, it won't be the same? What if they lose 3-0 to the eventual finalists but the game doesn't reflect that scoreline?

You realize that it sounds like you're just typing words for the sake of it?

It already is c'est la vie, we lost in a PK shootout to one of the top 5 teams in Champions League football in the last 10 seasons after dominating the first game like never seen been before by Atletico at that stage and losing an even match in the second leg. What does Atletico's progress have to do with anything? We're not even getting the same draw as them in the next round due to the TV market pooling and we don't match up the same with whatever opposition they get...

That's the least self-aware thing you've ever written, mr man who writes essays for the sake of it.

Maybe not for you, but I feel less shitty about the situation if we get knocked out by the eventual winners of a tournament.

He is responsible for not beating Madrid's Athetico. Although inzhagi does not score the goals, keeping thuram for 102 min was a mistake.

One of the big differences from the team of now v 2010, is the lack of real leaders this team has. Back then you had Capitano, but also other players that were captains in other teams.

Now Toro and Barella, and then well, I can see why we're another season away from the big prize.

Give Demone what he needs.

Well, that Capitano till 2010 was losing wild in CL.

Really don't think football works that way tbh, you can have team1 beating team2, and team2 beating team3, then team3 beats team1.
It is not like 3>2>1 hence 3>1, nor is it like rock, paper, scissors.

Like I cannot see Atletico do what we did to Man City in the finals last year, I also see us giving more trouble to Man City than Real Madrid can, but we will struggle more against Real Madrid than Man City.

Like the best part of this Inter is we can play in different styles accordingly, like low block, counter, play from back etc.

Atletico is quite a tough team for us, simply they are very good at cracking low blocks (Not like Barca), they don't play possessions (Man City) which we can kill their plays before reaching final third, they also sacrificed a lot to cage in Toro, hence more space for others to exploit, but we couldn't capitalize on it, which their weakness is somewhat their defense, but our conversion was our weakness LOL

Also they play a lot of direct balls for attack (like attacking all 5 areas and in numbers), hence creating a lot of physical duels and 1 vs 1 situations, the downside again is they are extremely vulnerable in transitions, again we didn't capitalize on it. Even it was tough, again, their chances were from individuals' mistakes.

Of course, but it'd make me feel a bit better. It's better than getting beaten by losers who crash out at QF.

To be fair the core of that team was also much older. With the exception of Sneijder all the stars in that team were essentially 30. That Inter team was full of men. Grown ass men.

This Inter team has some grown men like Acerbi, Sommer, and Mkhi. However, when you look at our best players they are all still just outside their prime. That’s good for us of course because it means our window isn’t closed and we have something to build around. However, you can see that sometimes these guys (Lautaro, Barella, Bastoni, Thuram) still lack a bit of maturity.

Only time and more experiences like yesterday can change that.

There's a huge gap between round 16 and the trophy. Please don't play the bipolar game, moving straight from the highschool test to doctoral thesis, that's what
you are acting.
You don't care about Inter finance but we do. Each round more costs tens of millions.

I'm not blaming inzaghi at all by the way and yes hopefully this is a lesson for our fans to not talk shit and overhype the team.

And that's why I'm so disappointed today. Atleti aren't better than us. We did not show up at all. De vrij said the real inter didn't show up and he's right. We looked afraid to attack and nervous all over the pitch, and still should have won.
Yeah i m not really that disappointed yes we fucked up but i can live with going out on pens agains atleti...
In my times as an inter fans we had many manh more embarassing cl exits (valencia/schalke) and all the times we fucke up in the group stages come to mind

I've read that is something around 50-60mln, which is not bad. I think we shall get around 50mln at least from World Club Cup as well.
