Inzaghi can’t score goals for Arna or Thuram. They were in the right situations at different points over the 2 legs and failed to capitalize. That’s not on the gaffer and it’s a big part of the reason we’re out of the competition.

That being said, he rolled the dice on his substitutions and going ultra defense mode. Darmian for Dumfries I can get behind but the constant Acerbi for Basto move is doing my head in. Acerbi shouldn’t be playing anywhere but the middle of that back 3. He’s in his mid 30’s and he was never quick in the first place. Then Bisseck for Fede was the final straw. 5 CD’s meant we had given up on going forward and were hanging on desperately. The thing is Atletico have the talent on their bench to change the game. And they did.

You need to be mentally strong enough to overcome difficulties and stay concenrated in hostile enviroments, you need to be clinical in decisive moments... We had none of those things last night and that's how elimination came.
Agreed 100%. But then you realize we're relying on the likes of Defry and Dumfries and you realize what we were up against. Even our core such as Bastoni, Toro, Hakan and even Barella have shown to be lacking in high pressure moments. Given what Inzaghi has to work with and his own deficiencies in terms of man management and player motivation, he's done a formidable job, especially over the last 2 seasons.

In hindsight? Sociedad went on to play PSG and lost. FYI there are no easy games in UCL knockout stage. The truth is inzaghi over achieved. We reached a UCL final, took the game to city and FIF thought we were suddenly a top tier team, Toro was a balon dor candidate, barella was the best midfielder in Europe and bastoni was the bergamo beckenbauer. The truth is our players and Inzaghi still have a lot to learn. Simeone / Atleti players are vastly more experienced than us at this level. But we're getting there. Bitter pill to swallow because had Augusto been available and bastoni not subbed off needlessly (injury?) we would have secured the win. But I ant fault Inzaghi. Name a manager who would do better (Conte, tuchel, pochetino?).
At this point I’m tired of explaining how the draw process works. Sociedad drawing PSG does not mean we would have also drawn PSG if we won the group.

The point of winning the group is it gives you the chance of getting an easier draw. If we happened to get PSG then so be it. However the chances were equal that we get Copenhagen.

Winning the group also lets you play the second leg at home, which is a huge advantage now with no away goals rule.

That club should have to apologise to him 100 times for making him have to sub on fucking klaasen in the ucl. His other option was tj.

Personally in hindsight asllani and moving hakan up may have been better. But who cares now. Inzaghi has been fantastic this season and yes, can't blame him for the players shitting their pants. That thuram miss is unforgivable. Barellas, I feel like lautaros pass should have been better

Barella was out of gas. He knew he didn't have enough speed left to cut down the middle. It was never going to be more than half a chance.

It's kind a funny that, Limone the Master of tournaments, and the choker of the league, this season turned to Dimone, the master of the league and the choker of tournaments.

You cannot compete at CL with 13 (outfield) players at your disposal in the toughest game of the season, three of which just returned from injury sideline.

I get the feeling you've been waiting all season to say something like this lol
I said it, that its ok we went out. Dont even blame inzaghi. His words about being proud are retarded tho. There is absolutely nothing they should be proud off... thats all.

That has nothing to do with looking nervous or not though. Atletico are awful away from home this season and that's a fact. We played awful at home and still should have beat them by more.

I do think atletico will have a season like us last year. Shit in the league and end up in the final. They are tough to beat in Europe, pain in the asses!
I really dont see a big differnece in the performances of us and atleti we both were rather bad away and pretty damn good at home but wastefull with our chances would not say it was a huuge mentality differnce...

Also we lost on penalties after 210 minutes of playing time some people make it sound like atleti was the cut clear better team.
Last but not least not really on inzaghi that a vast amount of inter fans were overrating us while belitteling atleti hence thinking this would be easy...
Last but not least where was that he cant handel two comps when pep has not won the cl in a long time at city despite having a way better and deeper squad than simone does? Where was that critizsm towards conte?ridiculose narratives are spun around a manager who has had an amzing year after what is his 3rd loss this season in what 30 some games?

Fair enough. But we finished 2nd last season too. And had an "easy" run. All in all the draw was favorable to us. Atletico didn't win. We lost.

I can't help but think that if we played the second in Meazza we'd be winning this comfortably. We were going in with major disadvantages.

I'm not blaming inzaghi at all by the way and yes hopefully this is a lesson for our fans to not talk shit and overhype the team.

And that's why I'm so disappointed today. Atleti aren't better than us. We did not show up at all. De vrij said the real inter didn't show up and he's right. We looked afraid to attack and nervous all over the pitch, and still should have won.

Inzaghi's done enough right this year and, most importantly, helped guide us towards the Scudetto which was his big question mark the last two years, so he doesn't have too much blame to bear overall, but I really want to know why he subbed Bastoni off at 72' yesterday. I was watching the game after-the-fact, and as soon as that sub was made I found myself thinking "I really hope I'm not bitching about this sub once I get back on FIF" and all that stuff. Was it a fitness issue or something for Basto? Because he's both taller and a better defender than Dimarco, so if he was ready to batten down the hatches and try to see the game out with honest-to-goodness catenaccio, why not slide Bastoni to LWB, and then sub off Dimarco for Acerbi? More than any other sub he made, that one didn't make any sense to me why he would do that. It also later led to him bringing on Darmian to play on the right, only to then slide him left after Bisseck was subbed on, and sure enough one of our best chances in extra time was on a switch that led to Darmian coming down the left channel, and it was a half-chance to shoot, but he didn't feel comfortable pulling the trigger on his left foot and turned it down...domino effect and all that stuff.

I really need an explanation for what he was thinking on that one.

Yes, I have to remind myself I should be pleased were back at a place where I'm extremely upset we went out on penalties to atletico. It'll be OK in a few days. I'm over for the napoli game and it's just wiped my enthusiasm out lol

Inzaghi has been awful in CL this entire season. This team can’t handle two competitions yet.

there is no chance in hell a team who has sanchez, Arnautovic, Klassen as main subs will be capable of winning CL

suning are a bunch of cheap fucks, give the man some real world class players or sell the club and GTFO

frugality isn't the way to constantly win in football, it happens by chance once in 20 years or something, but when you look at the previous CL champions, it's full of class

let's not pretend that we even had a chance to win it, bookies gave @15 odds for inter to win the CL before the first athletico game for a reason.

Inzaghi can make miracles happen we saw it in Italy, but in europe, our chance run out

the only way to bounce back from this failure is to issue some public statement renewing inzaghi's contract and promising to give him what he wants in the next years.

this could be the start of something great, or the end of a promising team

I don't think you win it if you get past r16 but I haven't checked the tournament format for a while

rule of thumb to know if you have a chance of winning CL or not, usually before even the season begins, the CL champions usually already have winning CL as an objective

remember 2010 ? that team was literally built to win CL.

this year, the majority of inter fans were pessimistic to even win the scudetto, especially after signing Arnautovic, Sanchez and Klassen

it was inzaghi who made a miracle this season against all expectations, let's not get too greedy.

give the man a long contract and top players, we have the base of something great. let's not kill it in the egg
