Inzaghi's plan worked greatly, we even scored a typical goal for our style. But it's absolutely not his fault everyone was choking after the 1-1.

His subs on the other hand only disoriented our defense. Never should have subbed off Bastoni for Acerbi.
the subs were pure potato, but a lot of the failings over the two legs, imho, are on the players. We should have scored more in the first leg.

I also said the same before, specifically for Mkhitaryan and was called hater.
This is Inzaghi's flaw since he came at Inter, and this season he has some improvement in that aspect and let's hope to keep improving in future as well.
I really hope him starting to rotate more till the end of the season, considering our comfortable lead. Players like Asllani, Frattesi, Buchanan and Bisseck shall play much more. Maybe it's good to try some experiments like deploying Pavard as CB or Asllani as mezzala. Frattesi shall start every match to build up confidence with Barella and Mkhitaryan sharing the other spot.
But he will try to break Jube's points record most probably, playing the starters every match no matter what.
Exactly!
This is the big elephant in the room for Inzaghi. It happened to Dzeko and now with Mikhi. While I could give excuses with Dzeko (we had no proper replacement, plus Lukaku injury last season), with Mikhi is just a proper wrong judgement. He had Frattesi the whole year and still he outplayed the 35yo Mikhi. In september when Mikhi played great and ran hundreds km on the pitch, nobody gave a shit. But now in knock-out competition after such a brutal schedule, you have an exausted grandpa and a player who doesn`t have enough minutes under his belt to make an impact.
The same story with Bisseck. When Pavard was absent he stepped up and was good. Pavard comes back and Bisseck ate bench completely for a few games.
With Asllani is more tragic. When you buy a 19yo kid who played only half a seaon of professional football, you either let him at his old team to develop or give him playing time (and by playing time, I don`t mean a few minutes in extra-time). Letting him rotting on the bench becuase "he is not ready" is the most stupid solution.
Some said that Buchanan should have played. But he barely played a few minutes since he is here. He may theoretically have the attributes for this game, but is suicide to throw him now, when you didn`t count on him for months.

Inzaghi need to be better here. And he has his own example with DiMarco and Augusto.

Ironic coming from someone who began supporting the club in 2010 and then took a hiatus during our banter era and went to the Real Madrid forums as bubba Ramos and only came back when we were winning again 😭😭😭😭

oh i agree, and thats why ive said already, i think a lot of this is on the players, not the coach. They looked nervous as fuck out there, but inzaghi did also make some mistakes.

You're both getting banned if you don't shut up. No one wants to read this. Seriously, no one. Talk about the match or move it to DMs.

That's what I'm most disappointed with. I thought after last year these players were mentally tough and stood up to challenges. But they looked mentally all over the place both legs

We did not. We were sloppy as hell in the first game. Hakan and mhiki misplaced more passes in the first game than they had all season (until last night). We were a bag of nerves in the first game too, IMO

We didnt allow Atletico to shoot into our goal, and scored for a win, we did good. I dont know what mental collapse you are talking. Second game yes, but first no.

That's more due to atletico. Cadiz beat them 2-0 and athletic bilbao 3-0 away from home after we beat them. We looked nervous as hell to me in the first game as well, we respected them too much.

Already added more depth in Zielinskii and Taremi, more trademark signings in the summer by Marotta and Ausilio, team getting more experience and cohesion, and next season we'll only get better while steamrolling over Serie A again no matter what Juve and Milan do as we're already light years a head of them.

This exit will give the club more motivation to work harder for Europe next time.

Tell me, how is possible that we went to CL final last season while having more than 10 defeats in the league? Cause that wouldnt be possible cause we were buttfucked from Monza, Udinese to Sassuolo. And dont tell me that our opponents were crap cause Benfica and Porto beat or outplayed rube, Psg and Atletico that year. And Napoli easily won Seria A just to be knocked out in CL by beelan. Losing to Cadiz means shit.

I have read many posts on this forum since last night. Some were constructive, some were exaggerations which was totally expected as tensions were running high and disappointment was huge.

So i will try to offer my, subjective for sure, view on last night as well.

Inzaghi approach was very similar with the one against Porto at Dragao last season. We had finished the match with a backline of Dumfries-Skriniar-De Vrij-Acerbi-D'Ambrosio. He tends to go full conservative when he needs to protect a score in CL.

Problem is Atletico aren't Porto. While we were saved by post in Portugal Spaniards had the quality to punish our lack of concentration in those moments. And that's the story of regular time last night. It's the little details that matter in the end and details weren't on our side.

Now about competing in CL in general. Many have mentioned the lack of quality on the bench. It's a fair argument and it would have helped us greatly. But you need more than just quality to win this competition. Man City have had it for years but they had this kind of eliminations many times in the past till they eventually made it. You need to be mentally strong enough to overcome difficulties and stay concenrated in hostile enviroments, you need to be clinical in decisive moments and you also need luck. We had none of those things last night and that's how elimination came.

Quality will take you far but you can't expect to dominate against your opponents every time when you face Europe's elite. You also need to grow mentally as a unit and grind qualifications when needed.

That has nothing to do with looking nervous or not though. Atletico are awful away from home this season and that's a fact. We played awful at home and still should have beat them by more.

I do think atletico will have a season like us last year. Shit in the league and end up in the final. They are tough to beat in Europe, pain in the asses!

Players should be proud... lol, yea sure.
Wtf dude. Players are not used to losing? Yea, sure perhaps not this season, but these same players were losing left and right last season.... you just showed that you cant coach a team in two competitons and thats what makes you just good and not great.
I get the feeling you've been waiting all season to say something like this lol
I can’t help but think back to the decision to not play our starting strikers together at all against Sociedad. We never even fought for the first place in the CL group. What that means is you end up facing a powerhouse very early in the competition.

In hindsight the decision looks worse and worse
In hindsight? Sociedad went on to play PSG and lost. FYI there are no easy games in UCL knockout stage. The truth is inzaghi over achieved. We reached a UCL final, took the game to city and FIF thought we were suddenly a top tier team, Toro was a balon dor candidate, barella was the best midfielder in Europe and bastoni was the bergamo beckenbauer. The truth is our players and Inzaghi still have a lot to learn. Simeone / Atleti players are vastly more experienced than us at this level. But we're getting there. Bitter pill to swallow because had Augusto been available and bastoni not subbed off needlessly (injury?) we would have secured the win. But I ant fault Inzaghi. Name a manager who would do better (Conte, tuchel, pochetino?).

Well, this is really a painfull season for Inzaghi haters so this was the right and probably only time for them to shine. I pitty them.
