SE SALTELLI....
He can play in a 2 man MF. I don't really know why some ppl think he can't. He is a 10000 times upgrade from anyone we have in that position....I don't care what anyone says. If cuchu was used as a dm, he could play in a more free position of linking up the MF to Wes and the ST.

The young Ricky looked very confident with the ball. Hopefully we'll see more of him mid week !

I don't think we can close the curtain on Ricky as a winger yet. I think using him in a David Silva type role where he comes into the midfield and connects with the other midfielders while allowing Maicon or Jonathan to provide the width could be the perfect position for him. He only needs to remember to track back and I don't think that will be a problem as his work ethic is there. This will avoid the problem of making our midfield "light" while still allowing him freedom. If Zarate takes up where he left off today this will be his spot to lose.

Thanks for backing me up Dude. It seems we both can see Ricky's experiment on the wing isn't over once he is given clear directions. However I am afraid our "tactician" cannot grasp this.

Well Ricardo, you did everything in your power today to make your greatest supporters look like absolute cunts today...and yourself. I don't even know where you BELONG anymore. The wing, LCM, RCM, you have stunk, if it wasn't for that bum Milito you could have been the most useless shirt on the field today.

He was put out wide on the right in this game after a couple of minutes in a central role, almost like a right wing.

Quite frankly his play on the right wing is painfully one-dimensional. The opposition can easily anticipate him cutting in or switching the ball to his left foot for a cross, unfortunately he's probably as predictable as Pandev in such role.

Fucking Christ. It doesn't matter if it was his first CL game or not. We are allowed to post observations of what we saw.

This is exactly true. When found on the right, he would try to turn onto his left and cut in, but he does it in fucking slow motion.

Why didn't Gasp play in the center? He was fairly good there against Palermo. Are Zanetti and Cambiasso really that much better going forward?

of course you are uni....but i dont see the reason to deface the player with derogatory words as such(not saying its you). everybody knows he isnt good on the wing, yet gasp still put him there. i dont think its rickys fault...is it?

its like when cuchu was played outta position last season, in a more advanced role...was it his fault that he wasnt performing well, or the fault of the person who put him there?

its essential(to me atleast) that he needs to play in the CM. we have 0 link up in the CM spot. when this is happening, wes has to drop back deeper and deeper. obi was meant to fullfill that role last night, but it just didnt happen for the young fella. gasp should have seen he was having a shocker, and put ricky in there. without a decent passing CM, we are forcing our cb pair to play as liberos(see how many times lucio and frog had to push the ball up themselves to get things going), and as i said before, wes had to drop back very deep at times. this rendered zarate almost useless at times, and we all knoiw how pazzo operates without any service.

for this team to run well, we really need that ball playing CM. look at our treble year. so many of our players thrived off this due to one person(dont laugh)...thiago motta. when he was on song, and his distribution from the final third was there, it made everyones life so much easier. wes flourished as he could concentrate on doing what he does best. how many goals did we score of the break away with milito, with long passes from wes that stemed from passes starting from motta.

if we are going to play 3 in the mid, then this is where ricky needs to be. i dont know why hes so bad on the wing, it could be a number of reason.....but gasp needs to wake up and see this.

seriously though...first freaking CL experience with the club. lets wait till he really sux to say he does.

Alvarez loves to dribble with the ball, and especially horizontally across the pitch to find space and seek for a pass.

This is alright when he's placed high up at the right wing, even when he loses the ball our midfielders are there to cover, defend and win back the ball. This becomes more problematic when he plays as a central midfielder, as a quick counter would leave us exposed with just our back line with barely any protection from the midfield. My guess is, Gasperini is just playing it safe here to not use an attacking midfield in the central midfielder role, and he'd only do it if we're down a goal or in need of a goal.

Having said that, I think Alvarez actually dribbles and retain the ball much better in the center of the midfield rather than the wing. It baffles me that Gasperini is not looking to Alvarez to solve our midfield's incompetence in passing the ball forward.

Exactly we need to stop making excuses for him now. Assp has played him in the middle where has failed and done nothing, and then he plays on the wing where he also fails and becomes nothing. Where do we play him next Blackmore? Striker? For fucks sake, we need to stop the mommy coddling here, why are you the dead last person on the forum to open your eyes about well....anything....
