Deki "has been done" like 1023 times, then he scores and becomes a beast...

Should start as CM. Deki is done.

Was very good but I fear it would be a disaster to start him along side Cambiasso in 3-4-3. Our CBs would get exposed big time because I doubt Alvarez and Cambiasso could defend well enough.

Cambiasso is covering way too much ground as it is and him not being fast is just limiting his qualities and effectiveness.

We all know he is at his best when protecting the back 4 and occasionally getting forward to bang some goals.

4-3-1-2 is a way to go and Ricky should play if he keeps his form.

Yeah. Ricky would be destroyed in two-man midfield in the long run. In that kind of situations as today, Palermo retreated to their own zone a bit more in the end so Ricky was able to find space AND time in the midfield.

As a CM in a 3 man midfield, he can absolutely solve our midfield problems with his ability. Today he did it against a weaker team, but was the only one who was shining in midfield even in the few minutes he got, you could see the ball was moving better. When they kept him off the ball they could easily go through our defence...

I agree. But don't forget they just ran through our middle after Ricky was brought in. They had one great counter attack 5 or 3 or something like that which they launched through the middle of the pitch with our CMs leaving alot of space.

I fear it would be like that all the time if we go with Ricky and dominante possession a bit more.

Nice match from him tonight. Looked more confident and had control over the ball.

Thats why I say a 3 man midfield with 2 DM's and this dude supplying the ball to Sneijder, Forlan etc would be the best solution. He cant really playmake and then ensure that we win enough balls at the same time. He won it twice or thrice today too, but very basic simple tackles. What we need is say Cuchu, J.Z. playing on his left and right and they can also cover for say the wingbacks Maicon and Naga in a 4-3-1-2. We will dominate possession and will churn out chances like theres no tomorrow against 99% of our opponents.

And offcourse they went through our midfield so easily when he came on, there werent any DM's! Even Deki was higher than Ricky, it was just him who was moving the ball from Lucio to Wesley, plus we were throwing the kitchen sink at Palermo too.

But as a few here said useless signing :eek:blivious:

Still not convinced this Inter have the personnel to play possession football and win games.

We lack mobility, directness and players who can beat defenders and create space. It was like this with Rafa, we held possession but could not really penetrate enough and make a use of the possession.

The other problem is the defensive side of the game. We can't really play a high defensive line and can't really press high with the players we have.

Maybe with Obi, Zarate and Pazzini playing we would have a better chance of doing that.

Tight at back and quick counter attacking through the flanks is a way to go if you ask me. We have guys who can run and cross(Maicon, Jonathan, Naga, Faraoni), who can pass(Wess, Ricky), who can hold a ball a little and make a clever pass and a run off the ball(Forlan) and guys who can put it away like Pazzini and Milito.

For me he was one of the few positivies as I've been highly critical of him in summer, but today is the first time he impressed me... although just as an induvidual player, but that is at least something.

The thing that impressed me the most was the quickness of his decision making. We indeed moved the ball much faster with Alvarez in the game.

And he managed not to get outmuscled on the few occasions.

We obviously shouldn't even try to play the 3-4-3.

Just goes to show, you can't judge a player in meaningless friendlies. Quite a few of the sandy vaginas on FIF were calling him a failure before he even played a professional game in Italy. This kid was made to play in central midfield. He has the vision and dribbling to be a force. His agility and pace isn't half bad either. Obviously, he still needs to work on the defensive part but I don't see why he can't be (at the very least) competent defensively. He doesn't need to be Makelele or Vieira in their primes.

Put him in a 3-man midfield like dino posted and he isn't so exposed and can proceed to do his thing.

There was this time when he was retreating and a palermo player put him under pressure. He calmly held his own and took the guy out with an inside step over with his right and left foot respectively and passed the ball. It was very impressive* I hope to see him mature in this role and hopefully in all other versatile roles.

I like Alvarez in the midfield too BUT I still strongly believe he can excel on the wing if we field a 4-2-3-1 when necessary.

There are two types of wingers. Wingers like Alexis Sanchez who use pace out wide and then there are wingers like Ashley Young who is given free licence to roam and appear in the midfield to add in the passing and quick movement for the attack or shoot, although he starts the wing on paper he would rarely "appear" there on field moving to exploit good spaces in midfield and assist Sneijder. He has the skills to do this and he has shown them off very well today.
