INTER OF SUPERHEROES
- From Milan "The Hulk" Skriniar to Matteo "The Flash" Politano, the new beginning of Spalletti is in good hands.
- The new season for Inter starts tomorrow: waiting for the last couple signings of the transfer market, the coach relies on the current and confirmed star already at the club and also the new signings.
- Nainggolan is a leader like Ninja Turtles, Icardi is like Superman, Martinez will light it up like the Human Torch.
A run for the Scudetto and to be competitive in the Champions League. The 2018-2019 edition of Inter gets back in motion, waiting for their players to return from the World Cup (Vecino, Miranda, Brozovic and Perisic). They already know that to have a great season, starting tomorrow, they will need a team of… superheroes. This is the only way to try fighting against Juventus, Napoli and Roma in Serie A and to consistently return to the Champions League.
From Handanovic to Lautaro, from Asamoah to Nainggolan: Spalletti is in good hands because everyone has that special something in them. And among those who have been Inter players and those that will join the club for the first time starting tomorrow, there are at least eight players who can be compared to the superheroes of the comics.
DEFENSE - Let’s start with Handa. He is fourth on the goalkeeper list with the most appearances in the shirt of Inter, just after Zenga, Bordon and Julio Cesar. Clearly, the Slovenian is a man of great experience. In this situation, Walter Zenga is still the Spider Man but Samir is Samir: he is normal just like Peter Parker but the Slovenian has the ability to magnetize the ball as if he were Spider Man. Last year, he saved 75% of the shots towards his goal (second only to Alisson and Buffon) and managed to keep a cleansheet 17 times. A certainty in front of Inter goal even at almost 34 years old.
In front of him is Milan Skriniar, the symbol of power. The all-muscular defender is coming off a super first season at Inter. He clears the area like Hulk and his batteries never run out. Since Serie A returned to 20 teams (in 2004-05 season), last season was the first time that an Inter player played every single minute in the league at 3420. Another wall is the newcomer Stefan De Vrij: he is the man of reliability and comparing him to The Thing of Fantastic Four is not a heresy. They say that this superhero is less strong than the Hulk but it is invulnerable and that orange stone (like the Dutch shirt) covers him like an armor: De Vrij, next to Skriniar, is an indestructible certainty for Spalletti.
Black Panther, the first African superhero, is Kwadwo Asamoah: he is the man of versatility who started in his career playing in the midfield and over time, he has learned to play on the left wing. Just like T’challa, King and protector of Kingdom of Wakanda, the former Juventus player is intelligent, he knows how to defend, he knows how to attack: a black panther who can guarantee to do a lot of running and giving so much strength, this is what Spalletti wants.
MIDFIELD - Superpowers are also needed in the midfield. Politano has them, so does Nainggolan. The former Sassuolo player is the man with great change of pace, the man of speed. Like Flash, with his fast legs, he will have the task to slip into the opposing defenses. And Nainggolan? Well, it is easy for him. As Spalletti said: “He has the character to go on an attack and defeat any opponent. On the other hand, he is a ninja, he is not a samurai. He fights with everyone on all parts of the field.” So is Radja like Ninja Turtles? Of course, these are not classical superheroes but he could be Leonardo, the bravest of the four. The leader that Inter was looking for.
ATTACK - Captain Icardi and the newcomer Lautaro Martinez are a beautiful couple. Like Batman and Robin? No, no. Maurito is Superman because he took Inter on his shoulders and brought the club back to the Champions League thanks to his goal. He is a stone cold killer especially in front of the goal: it is no coincidence that last year, he was the player with the most goals in Serie A excluding penalties (23). Lautaro, instead, is the spark, the unpredictability just like the Human Torch of the Fantastic Four. He will have the task of providing the much needed spark to put some fire in the attack and Interisti.
