Inter Milan prepared to spend big money for Diego Simeone

Mired in 12th place in Serie A, Inter Milan fired manager Frank De Boer on Tuesday before he could even reach 100 days with the club.

Stefano Vecchi will take charge on an interim basis, but a source close to the club says the coach Inter really wants is Atlético Madrid’s Diego Simeone, a former Inter player who has said that he wants to coach in Italy at some point. Simeone played at Inter from 1997-1999 and followed that with a Serie A stint at Lazio until 2003.

Simeone won’t be available until the summer of 2018, when his Atleti contract expires. It was initially slated to go until 2020, as had been agreed upon in March, but it was reduced by two years to 2018 last month.

I’m told that Inter’s owner, the Chinese company Suning, is prepared to pay Simeone €15 million ($16.5 million) a year after taxes to bring him in at that point.

In the meantime, I'm also told that former Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin is set to interview for the Inter job on Thursday.

This article was posted on the site of Sports Illustrated. They were the first to report the 85m offer for James Rodriguez so who knows? They could be right again. I thought it's worth posting.

I think Pioli is being very underrated here, he did very well at Lazio. But I'm not sure that he's worth paying for two coaches.

So, we appoint someone because he had 1 good season with Lazio?

Hence why I'm not sure he was worth firing FdB for. I probably would have kept FdB.

Good seasons with Bologna & Chievo too. He's second season with Lazio was hardly a disaster - although disappointing - but he was plagued with defensive injuries.

My oppinion is very diffrent from other users her but i still want to say it that our Team is really not bad this year. Im not saying that Pioli would bring uns on top 3, its not that easy. The main thing why i think it will be hard is this chaos. Players need to learn new tactics new things.. still: Not like De Boer failled. Only if the players arent motivated or something, then i see us again loosing every game. If thats not the case, i can see us starting improving. Even a remuntada like when Spaletti cames to Roma and got the third place.. i wouldnt really be suprised if that happens. Of course: Pioli is not Spaletti.

Pioli has not a bad charakter like De Boer. And im not saying that its wrong to bench players like he did with Kondogbia. We dont really know what happend. Why he dont benched Icardi like he basicly did with all other players? Why did he not play Gabigol? There was too many question, too many doubts...Pioli is more a motivator i think. So who knows, maybe its a good thing at this moment...

Which good seasons in Bologna and Chievo?

If you meant leading Chievo from 44 points to 46 points is a good season.. then it's :palm:

There was probably just a good half a season in Bologna under him.

an ex-juventus player with successful hair transplant.

Yes by Chievo's humble standards that qualifies as a good season. It was closer to a full season than a half season with Bologna in his first year, where he dragged a doomed Bologna side out of the relegation zone & almost into the European places. Thereafter he avoided relegation with them, which arguably with the likes of Bologna is good. He somewhat overacheived with that Lazio side in getting 3rd & they played some great football too. Pioli would certainly be no worse than the other candidates, plus he's Italian. Facepalm all you like.

We have tried ex-Napoli, ex-Roma, ex-Genoa and even ex-Primavera, and ex-Inter with 3 scudetti. They are all Italians. They were good when they were there.

If our players do not listen to De Boer who was a great player himself and had 4 league titles as a manager, I don't know how they will listen to Pioli who had a 9 months miracle in Bologna and eventually led them to relegation. There must be a reason why Pioli gets shown the door less than 2 full seasons in every one and each clubs he managed.

According to German media, Villas-Boas rejected both Wolfsburg and Inter because he wants a break from football right now.

It will need a very hard effort to convince Simeone to leave Atletico right now.

Finally, browha got his wish.

So basically let's sign no one because everyone's shit & whine forevermore about the sacking of de Boer. My what a productive discussion we have going here. Well anyway Pioli would be my choice, his Lazio of recent years impressed me, although his record up to that point is unremarkable, plus he's versed in Calcio. Btw all coaches lose & all coaches get the sack.
