If you only pay attention to him during the games you would be very hard pressed to find a single reason against him wearing the captain armband. We live in a silly time of social media, far older and more mature people than him do stupid shit and get caught up in the stigma of it. I don't care about his personal life, his wife/manager, his instagram post nor his tattoos. Just what he does while he is wearing the kit.
He is massively underrated as a captain. He is not the same meek little kid from a season or two ago, he has a far more confident posture, his facial expressions during the game, the way he does talk to the refs when they go over the line, he runs back to help out in the midfield far more than Adriano, Vieri or Ibra ever did during their time in this club. I feel like he realizes the importance and seriousness of the arm band and that he is putting an effort to unite the guys in the locker room. Look at all the birthday "cakes" videos for Inter players, that's all him. And even though I said this in a post or two ago I will repeat myself - he never ever dives. This is very important if you want to have credibility as a captain, at least to me.
Any captain with an ounce of sense would step down if half the squad was against him, but this is not that sort of situation. Here you have (if it's even true, which is yet unconfirmed to begin with) a small-scale mutiny of 3 players who have turned into a clan fueled by their subpar performances. And all 3 of them had quite a few shots on target in the past couple of games and managed to do jack shit with it.
Changing a captain mid-season is a really risky move and could also make things only worse. And even then - who would you give the arm band to? Handanovic is the only real choice but I'm personally strongly opposed to goalkeeper captains, they can't influence the game much and aren't close to the refs when it matters. D'Ambrosio or Candreva? God knows they try but they are not leaders. Miranda is the only choice but he just came from an injury and got injured again for at least a few matches. If it absolutely has to happen, I would like someone like Skriniar or Rafinha perhaps to have it in the next season. We don't have a role-model like Zanetti anymore so the next best thing is to have a player with proper fighting spirit be a captain.
