Today was the best I’ve seen him on the ball. That run leading up to the free kick on the edge of the box was pure heart. That cute turn and left footed strike at the edge of the box after taking the ball down off his chest was pure class.

Mauro Icardi is on track to shatter Gonzalo Higuain’s all-time Serie A scoring record for a single season with 15 goals in 14 games, but that’s not all.

The 24-year-old Argentina international has been on fire this term and bagged another brace in last night’s 3-1 win away to Cagliari.

That was his sixth multiple scoring game of the season (five braces and a hat-trick), more than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues.

His conversion rate is an astounding 32%, having found the net 15 times from just 48 shots on goal.

If he continues like this, Icardi is on track to break Higuain’s all-time record of 36 goals in 35 games for Napoli in 2015-16.

It’s hardly a new phenomenon for Maurito, who for Inter in all competition has now scored four hat-tricks, 18 braces and 45 single goals in just 160 appearances.

The trip to Cagliari last night was his 170th Serie A game, scoring 96 goals with 26 assists. That is an average of 0.56 per match, more than a goal every other game.

He is just four goals away from the Century mark in the Italian top flight and won’t reach 25 years of age until February.
