While my focus was on youth team, I did also mean young players in general. I mean, with Pirlo, we had a chance to take a raw product started by someone else and trasform it into the best midfielder in Serie A. Instead, as usual, we didn't show faith in the talented young stars and sold him on just before he became great. We train them up, don't give them any playing time, they find said playing time elsewhere and show the potential they always had, and we look like idiots. Even if our young players stick around long enough to start making first team appearances, there usually aren't many of them, and then get sold on. I mean, would anyone argue that Castaignos wasn't a young player we were trying to develop? He was not club trained but I don't think anyone would count him as a non-young non-developmental player. We wasted him by not giving him many opportunities and selling him after a single season. Doesn't mean he didn't learn much from our coaching team, just that Ranieri and Gasp were fools...
