10mln is too much. If there is a good offer, sell him.

Have the negotiations just started? What were they discussing all this time if not salary? Anyway, I would cave and give him what he wants, he is among the best in the world, WC champion etc etc

There are tons of things to define in a contract. There is no rush as current contract ends in 2026. They will take all the time needed for this. It's not like they work to define the contract on a daily basis.

We can't afford that. Other starters won't accept being paid half of Lautaro and nobody bothers to extend anymore. Look at Dumfries.
That decision alone basically boosts our salary budget at least 30%.
Lautaro is one player only. We need to think of a club.

I am not so sure it's a given other starters won't accept. Other clubs have hierarchy as well and they make it work. He is a striker after all, and captain.

Yes but the gap cant be as far as double. And super risky. If you know one's demand for salary after Lautaro extension, and find that excessive, it's already too late.

I am not a fan of one man team. Like Ronaldo. Nobody claims he is not worth his salary but he is blocking the reinforcement. Juve gets weaker despite tons of goals.

Especially our pathetic financial situation. We must sell to survive every summer already.

No. I think it's a pretty fair demand if we can get him on a longterm extension. He can easily get way more than that somewhere else.

We're also talking one of the very best players in the game and our captain here.

We can't break the club's max wage no matter who demands that. I'm not saying he is not worth it but our wage budget is limited according to our fucked up financial situation so we shouldn't make things worse.
Just put him on the for sale list and sell him to the best offer.
Right now I think he is the highest paid play right? (€7.5-8m) he is becoming greedy. Just look at milan, their highest paid player is Leao (€6.5m). They have a clear policy for highest wage and won't break it for one player.

I think our management knows the financial limitations of the club. :D

Lautaro's salary is 6.2m net at the moment, he's not even the highest paid player in the squad.

I don't know why I should be looking at Milan. Leicester-Scudetto winning side which is nowhere near us. Look at where their policies got them? 7p behind the table (1 more match played) and out of CL to EL. And let's not forget the pathetic Scudetto defence last season (only topped by Napoli's defence this season).

You right, he is getting 6.2m right now but offering 8m is so fair for him imo considering: 1-his performance 2-our limitation 3- our financial situation.
I'm not comparing our club only to Milan, my point is every club has a limitation policy like Real Madrid, as you know, they didn't break their limitation for Ronaldo so they sold him.
Altough I don't agree about some things about Milan like they don't have any debt anymore and the club is profitable (unlike us). Yes obviously they've been weaker than us for almost last decade, however, they could win one scudetto (the same as us) and they are progressing in every aspect which we can't deny that or underestimate them.

We can play without any of our midfielders or defenders, but not without Lautaro. He has every right to demand the highest salary in the team.

I have no problem with us paying Lautaro like 10m net on his current form. He is 'that much' better than the peers who are paid comparable to him at the moment. It's not breaking any salary structure, its in recognition of the massive progression he's made in the last season. If we win the league and he has meaningful contributions to another decent CL campaign, he deserves it.

Unfortunately, we are not in financial position to do that.
Lautaro is in his best season and he is still 26 years old. Now is the perfect moment to sell him, if he doesn't lower his demands. We can easily get 120 mln for him, even up to 150mln if PSG or some EPL rich club is ready to pounce him.
