Cruz to me is almost what Cambiasso is to me. I dislike his purchase, particularly because he replaced one of my favorite player in Crespo, and throughout his first season, I have never liked him, even after he scored a brace in Delle Alpi! But over the years, the fact that he's kept quiet on the bench despite performances that would allow him to be another team's main striker, I have constantly developed some liking towards him and now, he's one of my favorite Inter player.

Forza Cruz! :star:

Why do you dislike so many purchases? and how could you not like him after scoring a brace away to Juve?

....

It is not the first time Waterreus has clashed with Cruz but he insists there is no personal war between the two.

He added: 'There is history between me and Cruz. We played in Holland a few times and he once got a red card for kicking me into the stands.

'But there are no hard feelings. He still speaks a bit of Dutch and we spoke before the game.'

...

:D Cruz kicked him into the stands once.

Nice stuff from Cruz, he looks like a calm man but maybe not so when he's angry!

Argentina recall Cruz for England friendly

BUENOS AIRES, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Inter Milan striker Julio Ricardo Cruz was recalled on Friday by Argentina for friendly internationals against England and Qatar next month.

Boca Juniors striker Daniel Bilos was called up for the first time by coach Jose Pekerman just when he was being courted by Croatia, the land of his forebears, who have also qualified for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Cruz has been in top form in Serie A this season for Inter and will be hoping he has better luck than four years ago. He scored in a 1-1 friendly draw against Wales in Cardiff in February 2002 but failed to win a place in Argentina's squad for the Asia finals.

He is one of four Inter players in the 22-man squad, including right back Javier Zanetti who missed four matches for Argentina since winning his 101st cap in the Confederations Cup final against Brazil in Frankfurt in June.

Striker Javier Saviola, on loan at Sevilla from Barcelona, has been recalled after recovering from injury.

Argentina meet arch-rivals England on neutral ground in Geneva on November 12. They play in Qatar four days later.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Roberto Abbondanzieri (Boca Juniors), Leonardo Franco (Atletico Madrid)

Defenders: Roberto Ayala (Valencia), Diego Placente (Celta Vigo), Javier Zanetti, Walter Samuel (both Inter Milan), Martin Demichelis (Bayern Munich), Gabriel Milito (Real Zaragoza), Fabricio Coloccini (Deportivo Coruna)

Midfielders: Sebastian Battaglia (Boca Juniors), Juan Roman Riquelme, Juan Pablo Sorin (both Villarreal), Esteban Cambiasso (Inter Milan), Luis Gonzalez (Porto), Mario Santana (Palermo), Daniel Bilos (Boca Juniors), Maxi Rodriguez (Atletico Madrid)

Forwards: Hernan Crespo (Chelsea), Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Carlos Tevez (Corinthians), Javier Saviola (Sevilla), Julio Ricardo Cruz (Inter Milan).

yep great news for Cruz and another Argentinean of ours selected by Argentina.... if Kily wasn't injured he would have been called up and if Burdisso was playing regularly he'd be called up and if Solari was in good form he'd be called up and if Pekerman didn't have a personal problem with Veron he'd be called up.... and we'd have 8 Argentina internationals in our team. :D

GOOD LUCK JULIO, BEAT THOSE ENGLISH F**KS.

If Cruz scores against Engurland, I will go mad with joy. :D Oh, the thought of him losing the literally dumb Rio Ferdinand to get on a Javier Zanetti cross to head home a 90th minute winner...

If Cruz stays on for next season, I would probably end up getting his name printed on next season's jersey. :star: Tim made a good point when he told me that Cruz seems to be our new Zamorano, although Cruz is more of an introvert who keeps his feelings inside and Zamorano is just full of burst of passions. Just a question though, what is the difference between, "Il Giardino" and "Poncherello"?

If Cruz maintains his scoring throughout the season then we have no choice but to offer him a new contract. I have to admit that I was sceptical when I learned he was Crespo's replacement back then, but this season, especially, and last spring of scoring from Jardinero I'm convinced. I hope we keep the strikers we have today for next season instead of spending big on getting others.

I want to keep ObaOba, Adri, Chinito and Cruz for next season in addition to a fifth striker we buy in for a reasonable price tag.

Well, if we decide to give him one he will get in by the end of this month. I think Cruz has the capacity of scoring max 15-20 goals per season. He has, without doubt, had a good start. We'll see.

There is better strikers around, but they will cost us a lot, so if Cruz' scoring keeps up I don't see why we shouldn't renew his contract.

Il Giardino means The Garden, and it's the Italian equivalent of his Jardinero nickname.

Poncharello comes from the TV series Chips, and the character of Poncharello 'Ponch' played by Erik Estrada:

Obviously Scarpini can see a resemblance between the two.
