But worryingly for me, last year he was fast declining, injured often, made few huge mistakes, lost his pace... Oh well, let's hope he regains his old form. MAYBE if he stays fit, he will, who knows. I'm 50-50 about this transfer, can go pretty much both ways.

What is the different between 10 and 15m Pajo? If he's still good enough for you to "would have taken him anyway", then why bother? 5m is not gonna make big different in the book anyway.

After many years doing economic deals, I simply dont care about the price anymore, in my eye, there are only 2 types of player, those who are good enough and who arent. Buying the latter for a little cheap wont lead us anywhere why the former at least can give good football.

One only has to look at Capagnaro. The guy was one of the very best central defenders in the league at Napoli. Came here and started well, got injured and then just gradually declined from there, to the point where he was utterly useless.

Of course there is. 5 mils is two years wage of a good player, for example. Adding one mil to some players wage can make him come here. Or, if you add those 5 mils somewhere in a transfer (lets say Salah), you get good player, or you dont.

Every mil can make a difference. Even if its 1 or 2.

Besides, it's not just good or bad. If we made this transfer last year, i'd be fucking delighted! But after the bad last year of Miranda, im not so sure he is worth this much. We are taking HUGE risk with him, especially due to his age and if he fails, we are in deep shit. No way. We are not splashing 15 mils and pretty large wage for 31 yo to be a backup.

If we have a limit on transfer budget and cannot go even one penny beyond that then yes. But as far as it seems, we're looking to build a very strong team and overpaying 10-20m in total would not be a problem at all. Anyway, 5m is not a game changing amount of money for us, if he can help us in CL race next season then that 5m will be paid off instantly.
