Hamed, I´ve quoted you so many times today already. This is not an attack towards you...just to let you know...:)

If Italy has a coach that has balls and is willing to play offensively, then they will have a real shot. Lippi isn't so, and that's why I don't think they will go far.
Lippi - the Juventus coach - surely wasn´t defensive minded against R€al Globetrotters few seasons ago and there are plenty of other examples.

When he signed to coach NT, then it´s completely different story. Pressure, pressure, pressure from every angle. If you lose a match [doesnt matter if it´s friendly or not], then you´ll be destroyed [<- couldn´t find a better word] by the media. I think that is one of the main reasons why NT almost always play so defensive. They´re afraid to take any risks.
Hamed said:
I am sure that he will not take hot strikers like Toni or Lucarelli saying that they don't have WC experience, and may prefer Vieri and DP. This is the cautious mentality that plagues Italy since about 98.
If Toni and/or Lucarelli play an awesome season and if guys like Vieri and DP does not [in other words if they suck], then i´m sure Lippi wont take them to WC tournament [that is if Italia even get´s there!].

Saturday [3rd of september] Scotland vs. Italia. I do think it´s gonna be a tough tough match for italians. Gladly i´m going to see it from my tv. Will we see "Va-va-voom Vieri nets hat-trick" once again...:D

FORZA AZZURRI!!!!!

lol as long as italy wins they can paralyze vieri. I disagree Tommi I think Scozia is no where near Italy in class and if we show up prepared this is an easy win regardless of where its being played. I do agree that Lippi is probably the most offensive Italian NT coach in quite some time and I'm optimistic we will play more offensively than the past. As for Toni and Lucarelli they've already had great season LUCARELLI WAS LEADING GOAL SCORER!!!! Toni had a solid 21 goals and I expect him to lead Fiorentina to a great season. Its easier to introduce these players now let them play with The National Team instead of realizing Del Piero is a joke right before the World Cup starts and bringing in these guys at that moment.

True, Scotland is nowhere near Italia [in quality of the individual players], but Italia usually struggles against everyone they play. There´s no easy matches for them...

The thing is that Toni and Lucarelli has both been tested already. So far Toni has impressed more and he´s been regular NT player since then. Will Lucarelli make to the WC06 squad? I doubt it. Will Toni make it? No doubts at the moment, but Serie A just started and anything can happen. Long injuries etc...it´s way too early to tell who should go and and who should not. Let´s first see if even Italia can make it...

I also agree that DP has hardly ever [in near history] impressed when wearing italian jersey. Same goes for Materazzi who has pretty much sucked every time in NT.

Try grilled, they use it alot, and there is another one I can't remember :D

Hmm, maybe I shouldn't say offensive, what I meant was something else. If we talk offensive, I think Lippi is the most offensive coach Italy had in a while, compared with others.

What I meant by not offensive, is a coach that is satisfied with little, and one that doesn't take risks. There was a game against a weaker team a while ago, and Italy tied, and Lippi said he was happy when he shouldn't be. I even remember you commenting on it, I hate coaches that don't have ambitions.

I think Italy needs fresh blood and fresh mentality. I've been saying that that guy Vialli would make an excellent coach for Italy. He is offensive, while being reasonable, and he has international exposure.

Yeah, i had to do a little search and i found this...

June 5th Italia vs. Norway

About the match. I saw 15-20 minutes of highlights and Italia were...well, awful! I was sad the way Italia played, but i was even sadder when i went to channel4 and saw what Lippi the moron said:

“This is a good draw and I am very satisfied” and “I saw a determined Italy side that created two or three scoring opportunities and ran very few risks at the back”

What an utter crap he´s talking about!!! Determinded Italy? Pff! Two or three scoring chances is enough? Pfff!!! I´m very satisfied? Fuck off Lippi!! Pfffffff!!!!
I´m sure Lippi has ambitions with NT, but something truely is wrong with his after-match-comments. Norway was all over us and Italia should be happy to even get a draw...they were pathetic to say at least and there are Lippi who says "he´s happy" and all that nonsense.

Is Vialli even coaching anymore? Haven´t heard anything about him since his Watford days. He´s too unexperienced for my taste anyway. Who would make a good future NT coach then, hmmm....Mancini anyone? I think he could do more than a fine job after learning/spending few years at Inter first.

Vialli is now a commentator with one of the Italian channels.

With Watford, he was unlucky. The team got some players, but they didn't perform, and I am not sure if he quit or he was fired. But he'd make a good coach, he will have an excellent rap with the players, given his young age, and is more entertaining.

About his experience, I think taking risks is good at times. Scolari had not experience when he won the WC with Brazil, he knew how to manage his team, and that's more important. But I understand what you mean by experience, but I think Italy was screwed by the so-called experts.

But you are spot on, Mancini would be the perfect fit for Italia. He isn't afraid to turn a cautious defensive side to an entertaining juggernaut. I just hope he wins everything there is with us, then he can go.

I have been an italian fan since i dont know when, My dad worked in an italian company in middle east, and i have come to know lots oif italian & shared their passion for long. I remember crying when italy lost on penalties in 94, eventhough i was only 8 at taht time.
Lippi is one of our best coaches in years, much better than trappatoni anyways. The news is bobo will start in attack with gilardino and totti will once again be used as an attacking midfielder. Delpiero is going to be a substitute, along with luca toni. i respect lippi but i dont know y the hell did he bring delpiero to the squad, that guy has done shit for the azuri squad, and now he has gotten old and is even doing shit for juve. Cassano has once again been dropped, and u really have to wonder, that r we going to waste a talent like his. If he has attitude problems THEN SOLVE IT. Other than that i think this is a perfect squad capeable of lifting the WC next year and more than capeable of kicking scottish ass this saturday. Hope bobo & gila get to start, and toni comes on as a substitute. Hope delpiero warms the nech in both the games and then gets kicked out of the team.!!

I am not too happy that MAtrix is not involved in this game...

To me Italian will NEVER win Europe or World Cup if they don't start improving their justice in football..... Start with stopping their favouritism to BBilan and Gobbi...
, fire Galliani...

Look at Italian team, a team full of talents.. but when they are in the tournament... Freaking things happen.. Totti got sent off for diving...
Italian NT needs attitute change...
They certainly have the talent but there is something missing to win things...

and Italy won't be amongst the top teams again if they don't improve their youth system...like..Who's gonna replace Buffon?! there's not much of a talented young goalie like Buffon in Italy anymore, same goes for our defence..who is gonna replace Nesta and Cannavaro..but they do have a lot of good midfields and forwards coming out, but they really have to find some new talented young defenders and goalies, time doesn't wait for them

The next World Cup for Italy is going to be what this season is to Inter. Do or die. Players are at their peak and a few member of their squad is going to turn downhill sooner or later so unless a lot of impressive newcomers arised, it really is do or die.

I disagree. To begin with, a replacement for Buffon will not be needed for many years to come. At 27 years old, it would be much too early to start grroming a definate replacement for him because he's just so young and may have two World Cup's left in him.

I don't know what you are going on about the Italian youth system, but I see some steps that should be noted. The defense is the least of my worrie, we need to see more of the best from players like Maresca, De Rossi and many others (can't seem to think of that many prospects, but trust me, I've seen enough of the youth WCQ to assure you that we're standing with two feet).

Bitter Panucci Blasts Lippi
9/19/2005 2:22:00 PM
On-form AS Roma defender Christian Panucci criticized Italy boss Marcello Lippi for not taking him in consideration for a spot on the World Cup 2006 team.
“Lippi probably still has a grudge for the problems we had during my Inter days. I think he is demonstrating low intelligence by doing this,” blasted the former Milan and Real Madrid player.

Several journalists have asked Lippi to call back Panucci in light of his positive start to the season, especially because Italy appear to be weak in the right-back position with the discontinuous Zaccardo getting Lippi’s nod.
