thanks..but it was flattering. at least 1 goal too much.
It seems like we are doing ok! I only watched the highlights of the Croatia game and will watch the goals from yesterdays game tonight. Yet, I think these 2 results must have given our players some confidence boost. I still can’t believe how Mirzapour made a meal in the last sec of the Croatia game! Especially as he made some crucial saves throughout the game.
Our defence seem to be pretty shaky as well. So it’s the usual I guess, we are pretty good going forward but have problem at the back!

Btw. I think I read somewhere on ISP that this was our last game prior to the Mexico game! Is that right?

Yes..it was our last game.

Our defense is way too shaky and specially against speedy players, they look very very bad. Yahya is simply too old, Rezaei is the only half decent defender, and even he looks at times too nervous. If you look at our goals against Croatia and Bosnia, we outnumbered them even in the box, yet they still scored. That's pretty pathetic. They have no coordinance in defense.
Mirzapour did really well, that goal was just his old self.

We have a real good team, specially in offense, if it wasn't for Daei playing every game. But Karimi, Kia, Hashemian and also Zandi could cause a lot of trouble for Mexico and even Portugal if they underestimate us, however with Daei playing and that defense, it seems pretty difficult. But the team isn't bad, specially this young guy Teymourian. He is a diet version of Lampard. ;)

Thanks for the update Mr ;)

LOOL @ the diet version of Lampard. Then I guess he must be pretty promising player. I'll have a close eye on him during the WC ;)
I guess you cant blame Rezaei too much when fielded next to the rest of our defence players if you know what I mean.
I also wish we had at least one more game, but then again you cant expect much from IFF!

True...Rahman can't be blamed that much for it.

LOOOL! The fact that we played two almost full teams of Croatia and Bosnia and not Bagher Shahr and Macedonia B and a Yaounde selection, is a reason to throw our hats high. :D
But they are doing their best for the players getting high mileage.

From what I know, they flew Tehran-Switzerland(Camp)-Tehran(whatever reason)-Croatia(friendly)-Tehran-Germany in about 2 weeks. :D The camp was for about 1 week btw.

They also weren't able to check a direct flight to Germany, but the trip will take about 15 hours....I guess they will fly to Makkeh, Madine, Karbala, Meazza, Camp Nou and Lyon for the guys doing ziarat.

LOOOOOL Thats a hell of a itinerary! Having said that it wouldnt surprise me a bit! ;)
Anyhow, I'm now getting a touch excited, and am somewhat hopefull of a 4 points scenario which could take us through to the next round!

Great stuff - lets hope we can see some magic of his in the coming weeks!

I hope so too..

after all they have promised Hajj-e Omreh for the whole team if they make it to the second round and if he is in form, we could even make it. ;)

Specially that guy Teymourian will be motivated for that trip..

Waghean khak bar sareshoon. :D

I believe that Iran may have a shot to get to 2nd phase, but for that they have to get at least a draw against Portugal or Mexico (I would prefer Mexico:)), and win against Angola.

Iran has many players that play in Germany so they know what their up against (wheater), also they have some players with good skills and with a good "physical game". I think that they can do it.

What do you think?

Our problem has always been the collectiveness of the game. Individually we are a good team – especially when going forward. Our problem currently is the defence – mainly when dealing with set pieces.

Anyhow, I too, believe with a bit of luck we could get 4 points and advance to the sec stage. Unfortunately the latest news from our camp suggest that 2 of our key players (Mahdavikia and Karimi) have a niggling injury hence they might not be able to play against Mexico which I consider our key game. :( It's a key game because obviously its our first game and also because I truly don’t believe we can do much against Portugal.

Edit: Ignore the injury issue. I just read somewhere that all our 23 players did fully participate in today's training and that the 2 of them were fine!

Don't rate Portugal that highly, Portugal can be the greatest team in the world and give 7-1 to Russia but Portugal can also draw 2-2 to Liechtenstein. But I agree that your game against Mexico is your key game.

I hope Portugal is at his best because it would be better for Championship and of course for Portugal:D.

Potugal & Mexico..very hard to pass these two..

Portugal are the favourites to win this group, but Mexico could go far in this WC..I remember their performance from last Confederations Cup, and it was brilliant..they even won the match vs Brazil..The player I like the most there is Morales..very good midfielder, often the sccorer, too..

Although I wouldn't mind Iran to upset someone in this group, I just don't see it happen..

I have been seen the Iranian NT's for a very long time. I will never know why they aren't as good as they can be. In Asia, they are one of the best teams, their physcial strength is overpowering to most teams, and they have great technical players.

It could have been lack of seriousness from the players' part. However, with Karimi and Kia (specially) I see more professionalism and leadership. I hope this team they break the jinx and be as good as they can be.

I also agree with Ashkan. The game against Mexico is vital. Iran will surely win the physical battle, but they have to be warry of the Mexicans' speed.

Medhi might not agree with me, but I think Daei should start against Mexico. I think Marquez will be in charge of marking him, and this could take Marquez away from the game (from midfield and offence at least.)

However, Mexico has their own Daei in Borgetti. I haven't see alot of Iran lately, do they have a tall Marquez-style player?

Hamoudi..the thing with Daei is, that we have an almost identical player in Hashemian and two identical players don't match really. He also forces to play other players out of position. In defense, we don't really have another tall player. The problem with Daei is, that he is really 4 years past his best and I wouldn't mind him coming off the bench, but from the start is absurd.

The thing with Iran not being as good as they can be is because of some players attitude of the past and also a bit politics and the way the federation is run.
To give you an example, 4 years ago the team went about a week too early to Bahrein. The guys where there for about a week and pretty bored apparently, so they had a lot of confidence and went out partying. What happened was that they lost with 3-1. Before that, they played pathetically in Thailand and somehow managed a 0-0 draw, but all they had as excuses was that "our jerseys were heavy". When we played draw in Bahrein last year, Daei blamed the ball.(It was a Nike ball, the same they play in England.) I mean..seriously.

Then the federation somehow beefs up with players, or Daei beefs up with players etc. As an example, we have a midfield called Iman Mobali, who is probably our only genuine playmaker in midfield and hands down the best player in iran over the past 3 years. After being a key part in the team for over 2 years, he wasn't invited anymore to the team after a foul on Daei.
When we lost with 3-0 to Queen's Park Rangers, the coach for the first time ever singled him out and bashed him. There are stuff around the team you get to know little about. But some stuff is simply bugging.

Let's see...our defense and specially our wingbacks aren't the best and Portugal coming from the wings could really hurt us. The game against Mexico should end pretty tight, depending if La Volpe plays Rodriguez or not. Two tall defenders against our two tall strikers should help them.

Some sad news, the father of the Mexican GK, Sanchez, has passed away. Sanchez went back to Mexico, and may miss the game on Sunday.

I hope Mexico beats the crap out of them, but only because of that statement. I think you know what statement I'm talking about.
