this is the real gamble here. looks like he had many serious injuries in 22/23
no wonder his price went down significantly
is this why West Ham are looking for a sale rather than a loan? Hope that the medical will last 2 days.

Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali warns that Gianluca Scamacca and his planned transfer to Roma from West Ham United would ‘not be the right thing for him’:
“I think Scamacca could be a great signing for an important club, because he has extraordinary characteristics with great potential and such room for further improvement,” Carnevali told Rai Due.

“If I was a top level club, I would sign him, but if I was Scamacca, I would stay in the Premier League. He only had one year there, he needs time to settle in, didn’t know the language and had an injury that stalled his progress.

“I think it would do him good to remain in the Premier League and not return immediately to Italy, especially to Roma. I know this is his desire right now, but I believe it would not be the right thing for him.” - Carnevali
Carnevali is on very good terms with Marotta, then I read that West Ham purchased Scamacca from Sassuolo only a year ago for €36m plus €6m in bonuses and a 10 per cent cut of the sell-on fee. Of course Carnevali wants that 10% now as a sure thing, which is not certain with Roma 🤭

To me this is a done deal, since the club wanted to sign Scamacca even before West Ham.

I understand people having reservations, especially his injuries, but come on, he’s not as bad as some of you say. You can’t teach height and he has it. He is also good with his head and feet, with a cannon for a right foot, akin to Hakans if not more powerful imo. His general play could use some work, sure. And I don’t think he has what it takes to lead the line at inter, but I do think he has the ingredients to be a special player. There’s always the risk he’s a one season wonder, but that season was only a year ago. We could have never afforded him last summer, so this a potential opportunity to get him at a reasonable cost. Of course he could also fail miserably as any signing could, but he’s not a bum.

The problem is we don’t play 90’s football no more, today it’s an actual requirement that players have actual some technical skills, it’s not long pass forwards and high ball into the high tower in the penalty box and pray to the lord that all goes well. it is much more on the ground today. Scamacca just ain’t a particular modern attacker, he has a good head and a decent shot but he ain’t technically anything to rave about, is a guy you toss in if you need a goal and doesn’t have time to play you through a defence, he simply offer nothing the sort you need as a starter for that his base skills are just too restrictive and limited. He can be used for impact mainly.

He'd be coming to replace Lukaku, so not sure why you're objecting based on these parameters. He's an upgrade at everything except speed and arguably scoring, but even that probably won't hold 2 years from now.

He was above average at Sassuolo and completely busted at West Ham while being made of plastic. Anyone thinking this guy is going to come here and put up great numbers is on hopium with little evidence to base things off. Imo another player who if he was anything other than Italian no one would want. He’s got serviceable technique with a decent header. About all I see in him.

I was never the biggest of fan of Lukaku, I accepted the man as long as he scored, the moment that stopped I wanted him out, as he destroyed more with his horrendous ball handling then he actually did good.

Lol yes…

Had this not been in Italy and had he not been Italian I doubt any of you would even want this bloke… also everyone look like gods gift to mankind on YouTube.

He is a midtier level attacker, if that is what you want, we just have different requirements.

I'm fine with this deal. He fits the bill of the second striker Inzaghi wants in the team. Aerial prowess and can be the target man ala Dzeko or Lakaka. Yes his injury history is a concern , but it beats paying 50 M for a complete unknown. 25 M with bonuses should get it done.

I've been pretty critical of getting him consider injury history but to be fair, it's not as if he's had injury concerns for years. It seems it was only just the last season. The season before that he played 36 games, missing one through suspension and one through injury.

Can't say how bad 30 is if 35 is the price of Balogun. The cost is more or less the same with the salary difference.

Knee injuries scare me, and didnt play so hot in EPL. I don’t think this will end well for us.

Reminds me of Ibrahimovic in his earlier footballing days. Not a prolific goalscorer, but technically spectacular. I welcome this signing. Plus, he looks marketable. Italian, young, and has that bad boy look.

Somehow Marotta winning this transfer window instead Ausilio.

Cuadrado Marotta
Bisseck Ausilio
Frattesi Marotta
Thuram Ausilio/ Marotta
Samardzic Ausilio
Scamacca Marotta
Sommer Marotta

I am sure if Oldies transfer and Italian player must be Marotta signing, when we buy young potential like Samardzic and Bisseck must be Ausilio.

Frattesi and Scamacca in one team must be dream of Marotta.

Scamacca is a long time target, it's the 3rd year in row that we're interested so I'm sure they know what they are doing. But gosh it's so hard to feel any excitement from this.

Luckily, Inter plays in Italy. Scamacca knows the league, knows how to score here. Knows what it takes.

I'm not expecting him to hit 20 goals mark but I expect him to help the team score more. Target player with technical abilities, what's there not to like?

I'd say concerns are his knee which we will surely check in the medical. And then the fact he's taking two steps above, can be pull it off there?

I'm really excited about the prospect of Scamacca.

Firstly, I think it could be really cool for us to field a line up with 7 Italian players (for younger folk this used to be important when Inter had one Italian on their squad).

Secondly, he's big, technical, creative and can strike the holy hell out of the ball.

Thirdly, he has a bromance with Frattesi which can be very helpful.

From what I read from the Athletic there's a lot of upside to him and he had a bad season last year due to injuries which do not cancel out the 16 goals he scored for Sassuolo.

I'm not happy with the price. Wish it was around 18-20m at best. I really hope this deal does not bite us in the ass, specially when I read he was dealing with knee injuries last season.
