Kondogbia: Great respect for Spalletti

Geoffrey Kondogbia admits he had wanted to leave Inter “since the start of preseason” but insists he has “great respect” for Luciano Spalletti.
Kondogbia riled Spalletti after he skipped training in order to push through a transfer to Valencia, but the midfielder made it clear he only felt gratitude towards the Coach.
“I decided to leave Inter a long time ago,” he told Superdeporte.
“I’d wanted to leave since the start of preseason. Because of that, I started talking to Valencia.
“It was a difficult final month at Inter because I wanted to experience something new and embark on a new challenge with Valencia.
“This wasn’t what Inter wanted, but now I have to thank them because, ultimately, they listened to me.
“I must also thank Mr. Luciano Spalletti who, in addition to being a meticulous Coach, is a person who talks to his players and knows how to listen.
“I must thank him for pushing through my move to Valencia and the great respect between us.
“Did he try to keep me? It seems normal to me. Spalletti is Inter’s Coach, he has important objectives to meet and wants a good squad to achieve them.
“He had his objective and I had mine. He told me about his objective of having 15 or 20 quality players and he wanted me to be a part of his group.
“It’s understandable [that he may have tried to keep me] and I understand his reasons.
“Valencia? Talking to Marcelino convinced me. I received calls from other Coaches, but I chose the club that gave me the best message on their Coach’s part.
“He immediately made me feel the ambition of the club, plus I need to get back to my previous levels.
“Simply put, I chose the Coach that convinced me. Clubs in England and France had been looking at me, but the feeling I had with [Valencia’s] Coach and sporting director pushed me towards them.
“With regard to their €25m purchase option, this doesn’t concern me. It’s nothing to do with me. My objective is to help the team and play my best football.
“After that, my price is a matter that belongs to the club, not me. Today, I’m still owned by Inter.
“Staying at Valencia? Of course. Like I said at the beginning, today my objective is to help the team and win games.
“Then, at the end of the season, if we’re all happy, we’ll try to extend this adventure.
“In order to stay in Valencia, I have to deserve it and make the people here want me.”
