According to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri have an agreement drafted up on another season for the Bosnian, but that it would be financially difficult for them without the revenues from Champions League football.
Despite the fact that Dzeko recently turned 37, there has been little question that the former Roma and Manchester City man continues to be an important contributor for Inter.
Even though the goals have dried up in recent weeks for the Bosnian, his holdup play and overall contribution to the side have remained solid, and there’s been no doubt that he’s popped up with more than a few important goals during his time with the club.
Accordingly, Inter would like to keep the striker, whose current contract expires at the end of June, on for another season.
It has already been reported that the Nerazzurri are close to extending Dzeko’s contract, and FCIN confirm that a new deal would be ready.
The outlet report that all parties would be prepared to sign a one-year extension which would see the Bosnian earn €4 million net next season, plus some add-ons which would not be too difficult to trigger.
However, the difficulty concerns uncertainty about whether or not the team will have Champions League football next season, as they have a real scrap for top four in the Serie A table on their hands.
It has already been reported that even the status of contract talks with Alessandro Bastoni and Hakan Calhanoglu are uncertain at the moment on this basis.
Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has admitted that without the revenues that would come from participation in Europe’s top competition next season, the Nerazzurri’s entire financial strategy would have to change.
As such, the future of Dzeko at Inter is linked with whether or not the Nerazzurri secure a spot in the Champions League for next season.
