According to reports from Serbia, he's going to be the new Red Star coach. His coaching career at Inter didn't last long. Anyway, good luck!

According to fedenerazzurra he is about to sign for Inter and has also found the fountain of youth.

We have a breakthrough when it comes to negotiations between Inter and Atalanta for Dejan Stankovic. According to FCIN, during a meeting on Tuesday, the decision was made on the future of the 19-year-old: he can be sold already next month but only for about €40M.

According to reports from Serbia, he's going to be the new Red Star coach. His coaching career at Inter didn't last long. Anyway, good luck!

Figo became Inter ambassador then left very soon after to become some official and run for FIFA presidency.

Samuel, my all-time favorite defender, joined us a few years back as part of our defenders coaching staff. He left shortly after to be assistant manager for some crap Swiss League team. Now he’s one of the assistant managers to that retard Scaloni at the Argentina national team.

Stankovic was supposed to be an Inter staffer or coach of some kind years ago but changed his mind to take a job at the Serbian FA. Now, not even a month ago, he finally returns to Inter and signs a contract as a youth team “midfield specialist” coach, only to leave after 3 weeks to manage Red Star?

I love our former legends, especially from this era, but they need to fuck off and stop with this shit.

Obviously there is always high turnover in backroom staff in football. But being legends of this club, they should know better than to fuck us around by using us as a temporary stop gap until something “better” comes up. Training staff should commit to their job at this club, legends most of all.

They are from the era of the asado clan. From the times when Moratti led Inter more as a family business, than a proper team.

Chivu, mivu... Everyone comes back at Inter. It's their backup plan.

Give it few more years. It will all go away. It will be only merit base shit.

The point was we just take these former legends in, figure out some random role for them while they're searching for real gigs elsewhere. Nice for sure (for them) but I'm not sure if Inter should be doing that. I'm not even blaming these guys that much, it's more Inter. Maybe it's Zanetti handling this stuff.

It's not a big issue at all, but how do you not see the problem in it? Deki (and Figo and Samuel) agreed to work for Inter, then changed his mind and left before the ink on his contract was even dry

What kind of flaky shit is that?

Yes, we're all professionals here and we look after our own interests so don't give me that lecture. It's just a bit cheap is all I'm saying. Especially in the football industry and former-player context because these guys are being given jobs due to their connections, rather than merit.

Imagine your mate is a manager at a company and pulls some strings to essentially give you a job for free. Then you just leave after a few months anyway. Makes you and your mate both look a bit silly doesn't it.

Obviously I don't blame former players of having differing ambitions. But if your mate gives you a well-paid, comfortable job for free, the least you can do is stick around for a year or so I reckon.

Wasn't Figo at Inter for like a a couple of years? That ambassador role doesn't really mean much. But he's still part of the club, just not the first team. I think he's still part of Inter Campus and he's also one of the main people behind Inter Forever.

Walter Samuel didn't retire at Inter so it's a different case. Though even he actually was part of the team for almost a full season (from November till the end). He was called to become an assistant manager so he took it. Don't see an issue here.

With Dejan Stankovic it's a bit more weird and I do agree. We offered him a start at a coaching level and he immediately left. Maybe there's some misunderstandings with the management that we aren't aware of via the media? It's not like Deki came back to the same environment he left from.

I don't have an expectation to tie a legend to a club forever. It wouldn't look good on either party if they ended up at our rivals, but trying to do their own thing outside of Inter is not something I'll be frowning upon. Not everyone has to start at Inter. In fact, I prefer if they prove themselves elsewhere instead and not be automatically given a coaching or whatever job just because of who they were as players. Inter is the top level and it needs top people.

I'd be okay if our management had some ex-players that are smart enough and loyal enough and can also make a football based decision, like Ajax, Bayern and some other clubs are doing. For example I wouldn't be complaining much if our management consisted of Javier Zanetti, Esteban Cambiasso and someone like Nicolino Berti.

He passed up a job as a youth assistant coach or whatever the fuck to be the first team manager at the team of his youth and biggest team in his home country. It's not like he left to be kit manager at AC Prato

Also it might be part of the deal with Inter, that this position will help them get somewhere and be able to negotiate better for that role.

Moreover, just being legends doesn't make them good for a role here. It's better if they go in that case. Remember how Materazzi was expected to be a good coach, but then he couldn't prove himself in the stints he had elsewhere.

He’ll get fired in 6 months anyway, not that I don’t love Deki but most Balkan clubs are like that.

Either that or a great player isn't necessarily a great coach.

OFFICIAL: Stankovic named Red Star boss

Dejan Stankovic has officially taken over as coach of Red Star Belgrade after terminating his contract with Inter. “I can’t wait to get started.”

Stankovic was in charge of the Nerazzurri’s youth academy for only a month and resigned several days ago to become boss of old side Red Star.

The retired midfielder was at Inter’s headquarters this afternoon to finalise the termination of his contract, before being confirmed as coach of the Serbian champions.

“I’m excited. I like challenges, I don’t run away from my responsibilities. It will be difficult, every job in this world is difficult,” the 41-year-old told Novosti.

“Imagine the privilege I have now and how honoured I am to have the opportunity to coach Red Star. I have to thank the people at the club.

“I had a good contract with Inter, I took charge of all the youth levels and I put together a scouting programme.

“A month and a half ago, I wouldn’t have said that I would become coach of Red Star.”

Stankovic replaces Vladan Milojevic, who was sacked for failing to keep the team in European competition, despite their domestic dominance.

The former Inter and Lazio midfielder was a Red Star player between 1995 and 1998 before joining the Biancocelesti.

» Good luck Deki!

Look at the brightest of sides ever.

Serbs have some hilariously insanely talented players. Deki can inform us earlier than anyone else... So yeah... Next SMS could be ours :D
