Stankovic: 'It is normal for Spalletti's position to be questioned'

Former Inter Milan star Dejan Stankovic believes that it is normal for a manager's position to be questioned if some results don't go their way and it is normal for Luciano Spalletti's position to come under scrutiny.

Inter were knocked out of the Coppa Italia in midweek after having conceded a goal in the second half of extra-time at the hands of Ciro Immobile, who helped Lazio set up a semi-final clash with AC Milan.

Stankovic was recently talking to Gazzetta dello Sport and he said: "The rumors about Spalletti's position? I've been in Italy for a lifetime, every year is a photocopy.

"In big teams you have to get used to it. If you do not get results for 2-3 games it is normal to be questioned and coaches need to know that . It also happened to Mourinho in the year of treble, when we took three goals in Catania before beating Chelsea in London.

"No one came into our locker room , with all the respect of the managers. If we did not get to the hands, we lacked a little spark. We told each other everything, but in the face. You can not give up in February, there's also the Europa League to play."

Inter face Bologna in the Serie A tomorrow, as they hope to comeback to winning ways, following last weeks defeat to Torino.

You cannot give up in February, hm, so he's indirectly implying the fuckers aren't even trying their best.

How I miss Deki.. I remember interisti on the internet would criticize him for lack of creativity, playmaking ability, that he is a walking wood  If only they knew what kind of "creative playmakers" they were going to see at Inter in the next 10 years.

I was one of those and I still hold the same opinion. But he made up for it in other ways.

The Stankovic hate was surreal. The brief time I was criticizing him was because Mancini was using him while injured and still preferring him over others that way which was insane. Then my respect for Deki grew even more and my anti-Mancini sentiment grew even larger.

I remember people wanting to replace him with fucking Lampard in 2008 just because of some media shitfest and the silly notion (again due to media) that Fat Frank was a better player :palm:

You don't have to have playmaking ability to be a midfielder, so long your team doesn't depend solely on you to create by playing 3 defensive midfielder behind you.

He was in Sydney a couple weeks ago promoting his Deki5 camp to a medium sized Serbian community suburb in Western Sydney. I took full advantage.

Stankovic: “Inter Dominated The First Half, There Will Be Surprises In The Future”

In an interview with DAZN, Inter legend Dejan Stankovic had the following to say about the 1-1 draw between Inter and Juventus in the second Derby D’Italia of the season.

“Inter dominated the first half but in the second half Juventus woke up and showed their qualities, they are a team that doesn’t allow themselves to perform like they did in the first half. Tonight we saw two completely different halves,” he began.

Stankovic then looked at some individual performances.

“Skriniar had a great game tonight, but on their goal he should have anticipated the one-two and adjusted himself accordingly. Icardi? He participated in the play, but not that much. Tonight he was solid, present and lacked only a goal.”

He concluded the interview: “Inter have to finish this season on a high note, qualifying for next year’s UEFA Champions League. The directors are at work, there are a couple of names and there will be some surprises, you will see.”

I love Deki, but Lampard was a sensational player and it was nothing surprising that people were drooling by the prospect of having him here at Inter. I just don't get the "Oh he's English, he plays in the Premier League! Fuck him he sucks!" notion.

Stankovic: “Inter Is Like A Second Skin, I Would’ve Liked To Have Worked With Conte”

Speaking in an interview with Inter TV, former midfielder Dejan Stankovic discussed several moments from his career with the club.

“Inter is almost like a second skin, I grew up in the Red Star academy but I ended up having great years at Inter. After arriving, I said I wanted to finish my career at Inter and that was the case. Even after the end of my contract with Inter some offers arrived but I didn’t feel like accepting,” he started.

“I spent little time with Inter when they didn’t win. I arrived in January 2004, a year in which a new Inter was built, with some changes, we then started winning in 2006. Players with great character arrived, without taking anything away from the players who were there before, but Inter is a great club and the goal is to stay high.

He was then asked for his thoughts on current Inter manager Antonio Conte and whether he would like to work under him.

“Yes I would. When he arrived he did an interview and I immediately said that he is a great professional who will immediately change Inter. After three months you can already see this, the players follow him and San Siro is full which is a important thing.”

He then recalled two of the goals he scored in the Milan derby.

“In 2006/07 I scored. Roberto Mancini teased me that I couldn’t play a nice ball, take a nice corner or cross. Hernan Crespo’s goal came off my cross and then he told me I never scored and I went on to score the third. It was a nice derby, it was very important.

“The second derby goal came in Jose Mourinho’s second game. I had dinner with Thiago Motta, Julio Cesar and Wesley Sneijder. We all scored goals whilst Julio had a good game. They were two beautiful goals, two beautiful derbies but if I had to choose, I’d choose the second one.”

He also reflected upon two more of his memorable goals, long rang strikes against both Genoa and Schalke.

“They are two goals not from just outside the box but from deep in the midfield, I am very lucky. The one against Schalke was beautiful but I am sorry that the result of that game overshadowed the goal. It was a really crazy goal and very strange.”

He also spoke on former teammate Sinisa Mihajlovic, who is currently battling cancer.

“Sinisa is the godfather to my children, he is more than a friend, he is a point of reference in my life. He is a warrior, he must continue to fight, we are all with him. He has shown his strength against the disease to all of Italy and to the world.”

Next he was asked if he misses playing.

“At first I missed it. The first year is very difficult. You are used to that all your life, with your adrenaline going at a thousand miles an hour and you then find yourself not knowing what to do. Sometimes when I see the pitch, especially the full San Siro, you get flashbacks.”

He was then asked for his thoughts ahead of Inter’s match away to Borussia Dortmund.

“It won’t be an easy game, I hope they are all well available because we will have to play one game after another. I don’t know Dortmund, I’ve never played them but I know the yellow wall: 25,000 people create a beautiful atmosphere. I expect a great Inter, it will be a tough game for them.”

Corriere says Stankovic will return to Inter. He will apparently work as an assistant coach to the manager / head coach of each youth team from U15 to Primavera.
