Tbh on lukaku.. it depends on salaries and stuff but look at the last time we spent 30mil on a striker. It's a disaster that will linger for years. I think Lukaku is risky, but I personally would take the risk at 30m. More than that and I'm less convinced

You can't sign Lukaku when you claim you need to reduce wage bill. You just can't. And from 2024 he won't even apply to growth decree.

You don't have the luxury to offer 15m gross or more to a player. Not just to Lukaku but to any player. You can't call for sustainability (Marotta) and then spend most of your budget (from sales) on a 30-year old with no resale value and on massive wages. Financial wise it makes no sense.

Here is my reply to @Brehme in another thread
"How much is he overrated? I just see some facts, and the facts are since he came, we finished twice second, won the scudetto, played CL and EL finals, won 2 Coppas and 2 Suoercoppas. All of that in 4 seasons, provided that after the first one Zhang cut the money off. Let's compare to the 4 years before him"

Please show me what the above-mentioned two won as directors here and in Milan? Shitting now on Marotta is quite easy, because the club is nearly broken and for him is so difficult to reduce the salaries, operate without any money and keep the team competitive in the same time.

And before start criticizing randomly once again, let me point something to you. Last year Marotta had the Bremer's deal in a hand at the beginning of the mercato. The only thing required by Zhang was to give 30 mln in order to close it, and then the money would have been returned after the Skriniar's sale. This didn't happen. Now the situation is repeating once again. He had a agreement for Frattesi which required around 25-30 mln to close it, and after that Marotta could have waited and pick up the best offer for Brozovic instead to hurry and sell him for peanuts.

That strategy of self financed mercato, and the tactics - first we have to sell and later to buy is known by anyone, and therefore everyone is trying to get a gain of it and to bully us on the transfer market. If you are in the shoes of Marotta, and you have the following limitations by Zhang, what you gonna do?
- The mercato is self financed. You have to sell first in order to buy.
- The salaries bill shall be reduced.
- The squad shall remain competitive and make it in top 4.
- You should replace all of outgoing players: SDV, Lukaku, DD, Skriniar, 5GAG, Dzeko, Bellanova. It's up to you who wants to keep

Please share you thoughts
I just don't see where Lukaku fits in all of this. It doesn't make sense when apparently Inter needs to cut age & wage from the squad? Lukaku is a depreciating asset that we'll never ever be able to sell again and his wages would be the highest in the squad. Do we expect him to return to 2019-2021 form? Nothing in the past two years suggests that this player can be useful throughout an entire season.

Actually Zhang is the person who is in love with Lukaku, not Marotta. I believe that Marotta's idea is only about loan, without long term commitment to a 30 years old player. But if his boss wants Lukaku at any cost.

And while Marotta has made mistakes, he's not an idiot. Which is why everyone thinks this is a Zhang demand. Because I'm convinced the Zhang family are incompetent morons.

In the scenario that Zhang is the one that wanks over Lukaku and keep pushing for a transfer all our disagreements and talks about budget and shit are irrelevant.
You cant base your whole narrative on "we are broke and we have an outstanding loan" and pull shit like this. Whoever was adding up how much cash we save from selling Brozo... how about you add up how much we save if we DONT buy Lukaku.
There are so many contradictory actions in our marketing strategy that you cant pretend to understand it.

Honestly, if lukaku can carry us to the top 4, he's worth the money. What are the other options for a 30m striker right now? Thuram is an unknown own quantity, Lautaro is hot and cold, but if Lukaku (and this is the big risk of course) can maintain his pre Chelsea form & his end of 22/23 form, he's worth his significant weight in gold.

For me it's not the cost of him, it's the risk. Also it does depend where his final salary will end up but if he's willing to reduce to something we can accept..

Lukaku is a pretty massive risk. He's 30 years old and has one month of quality football over the last two years. He has astronomically high wages. If he declines physically at all we'll be in trouble, because he has very limited technical skills.

Lukaku is 30 and will be 30 for 99% of the next season.

Dude, Lukaku needs to get us Scudetto if we buy him. I would say 2/3 Scudetti in the next 3 years. In general, if we get him for next season, nothing but Scudetto is a disappointment (given current moment).

Sure, but he fucked up the most with Correa, Gosens and losing Skriniar and those aren't small mistakes. As you said, we are broke so they have to be more careful when making these decisions. I'm yet to see how fucked up we'll be with Brozovic's loss.
And Lazaro?

For all of you who say Marotta is bad at selling players! If you look from the other angle, the facts are exactly the opposite!

Many of us here are reluctant to buy players from Atalanta, because they seem good in their system, but when they are sold they don`t live up to the expectations.
Let`s make the same analogy with Inter and what have Marotta obtained.

- Icardi sold to PSG for something like 70m, if I am not mistaken. Maurito was lazy, indolent, basically he didn`t give a fuck. After 3 years of scratching his balls on the bench or "injured" he was sent to Galatasaray. At the end, money down the toilet.
- Hakimi also to PSG for 60+m. Now PSG are open to sent him away from different reasons. Do you consider Hakimi deal from their perspective a success if you put all the staff in balance? Neither do I!
- Lukaku to Chelsea. What were the numbers 120m? To say that Lukaku was trash would be unjust to the notion of trash! The man was disgustingly atrocious. Not only that! After a year he wrestled his return to the team who sold him. Basically Chelsea loaned Lukaku from us for 1 year for over 100m. They probably consider themselves biggest idiots with this transfer and they are right.
- Perisic to Tottenham. Perisic came as the best LB/LWB is Serie A. His season in PL could be considered mediocre at best. Far away from his Serie A standard.

So basically none of our players who left for important clubs lived up to their expectations. You can find causes, circumstances or excuses for all of them. The sample is also not big. But the results speak for themselves. Our lefties were trash, mediocre or made others headaches (Hakimi).
And after such results do you expect to be able to sell players for whatever you consider their value is? Do you believe the other clubs didn`t notice that none of our sales were really successes? Maybe they believe that we made them seem better that they actually are (our style, Serie A and so on). And you ask yourselves why we don`t sell players for higher fees?
Here is the answer.

As a matter of fact the same apply to my second club, Liverpool. All the players who left disappointed (Coutinho, Emre Can, Wijnaldum, Mane). Of course they say, it`s because they seemed better under the Klopp style. And that is probably true. But the truth remain. Why should the same not apply to Inter.

Yes, Marotta isn't perfect and he fucked up a few things, but I still feel he is better at working with 0 budget than a lot of other previously mentioned people.

Samardžić, Kamada and maybe another striker that isn't Lukaku (costs too much, if the price is really 30mil) AND not selling Onana would be good enough transfer window for this upcoming season.

If we sell Onana, I don't think we have a chance of landing somebody in goal that would help us go for that 20th Scudetto.

Of course Marotta Will sell Onana, and buy Carnesecchi. With Frattesi coming, only Calhanoglu, Dumfries,Lautaro, and Lukaku who Will be foreign Players in starting line up next year.

Marotta huge fans of Italian talent, and Zhang is Lukaku fans.
