Responsibility of what? Losing CL final?
He landed to the CL final with this goalkeeper! He could definitely do better but how can you say the mistake of losing CL final because they don't have a better GK which means the mistake was done last summer or last January.. Many many matches before.
Again, nobody would have imagined it was Liverpool who contested Real Madrid in the final.
Furthermore, it is not only the GK that is not up to CL final standard. Their whole defence and midfield could do much much better. For example, the last goal, Bale took a shot being mesmerised by 5 Liverpool players. Nobody even tried to close down.
If there is anything Klopp has to take responsibility is how he developed his defence system. His defence is atrocious. This exposed Karius even more.
i think we can talk about people's mistakes even though overall they have done a good job.
if i had to judge klopp's season, i'd give him a solid 8.5. but it could have been 9.5, even 10.
single mistakes may change the outcome of a season, as we all know. especially in a tournament with a knock-out phase.
that is why many call champions league "the tournament of the details" (i think mourinho was the one who said it first).
ok, this was the premise. now on to the point.
those mistakes were embarrassing even for a round of 16.
the goalkeeper must be up to the task, more than anyone else. because when he fucks up, there is nobody else to remedy for that.
two of three real madrid's goals were uniquely because of karius.
so yes, unless the property kind of forced karius among the starters (which i doubt), it would seem pretty obvious to me that klopp has to be held responsible for not finding a better goalkeeper on the market, i'm fairly sure liverpool's finances would have been enough for a decent solution.
klopp was overall great this season. half of the distance between great and legendary lies in karius.
