This is not going to happen though I'm trying to be true to the game:
--------------Pazzini---------------------
---Eto'o-----Sneijder------Alvarez-------
----------Vidal------Cambiasso-----------
Zanetti--------------------------Maicon--
-------Lucio------Walter Samuel---------
-----------------JC----------------------
I like this formation, and it is also a perfect example of how a 3-4-3 and a 4-2-3-1 are not that far apart. The above formation is basically a 4-2-3-1 (I edited Dyna's formation slightly to make it more obvious), but look how little needs to be changed for it to be a 3-4-3 (Gasp pulled this slight of hand in the match against Cremonese by playing Muntari in the Vidal role).

These two formations are basically the same - the only difference is in the 3-4-3 Zanetti doesn't push forward as much and Vidal plays more wide. My question is, who do we have that can play this flexible role where Dyna placed Vidal? We saw Muntari try it today (did a fine job IMO), Obi tried it vs. Mezzocorona. I have to imagine Nagatomo can handle it, probably Zanetti too (pace?).
I've been trying to wrap my head around this shape all day, and I've calmed down considerably
. As long as Wesley can keep pushing forward and Gasp does not ask him to play too much defense, I think these tactics can work. As you can see from this transformation, they really do not seem to be vastly different from what we played under Mourinho.
