Everyone talking about Onana in Sommer thread, but I found out he took a pay cut to join us too, not a lot, but the gesture speaks volume, and I am talking about net. I guess he values play time a lot more. This is good for us.
He definitely wants to stay in form for Euro 2024, much like Gosens.

2 games 2 clean sheets, regardless the opposition that's a great confidence booster for Sommer.

I don't think he has looked as sharp and confident as he can be so it's all positive going forward the clean sheets.

Cracking save from Azzi shot too 👏

Eh, these clean sheets don't mean shit. If he saves 5+ shots against Milan and manages to have a clean sheet, now that could speak volumes about how good he is.

But not against Monza and Cagliari, that barely had any shots on goal in both games against us.

At least he had a good lil save in the last minute. Not a strong shot but still.

Could care less if he can pass a long ball, as long as he makes those kind of saves he did today.

The less we use him in our game-play, the better for us. He's different to Onana.

His ball destribution is even worse than Handa's.

Do not misunderstand me. Not saying that we should skip on him, but in these moments under pressure, the ball needs to be played elsewhere, otherwise we'll remain fragile to brainfarts.

Guess, we'll have to get use to 3-4 nervous situations per game with this guy, however it probably cost Inter a match or two.

Yea, and I remember I got shit on in the rumor thread, when I said he is not good with his feet like wtf?

Though his save was superb, I mean it was a super save!

His ball play is bad indeed, but he looks like a decent shot stopper. Most probably we'll struggle more against high pressing quality teams, but he should be better against small teams like Cagliari, which have 2-3 chances per game.

I was also mocked when i had said Sommer ball contribution is his main weakness. Well it didn't take long for people to realize it.

well this points from mid and low table teams are crucials, just look how we get 42 out of 60 points last year, fuck 12 points from Jube and Merda, this is how we get second star

Thats why we need player like Pavard, Sommer is terrible at passing.

I really don't get what this obsession with ball-playing goalkeepers is... Sure, it gives you a bit more resiliency against high-pressing teams but there aren't that many in Serie A. Torino were one last season, and the others are the "big teams". In Europe, maybe that's an edge, an extra. That said we really don't need extras right now, we need the fundamentals - good defence and focus in front of goal.

Look at Onana at Man United - he's already conceded 4 goals in 3 games... Yeah, he can't be to blame for all of them but I'm pretty sure he's made at least one or two mistakes doing his fancy goalkeeper-sweeper antics. I think he got lobbed like an amateur in preseason.

Reflexes still seem pretty sharp considering his age.

Not enough action to warrant any possible judgement, let's see how he gets on

He'll get better over time. Still learning his teammates movements etc. Obviously he's not as good with the ball at his feet as Onana but I think people are exaggerating how bad he is at passing. As long as he's reliable it will be fine.

On the other hand, given all the fuckery that happens when we play Bologna as it is, I'm just waiting for Sommer/Zirkzee part due:

Curious as to how he’d command a Bastoni - De Vrij - Pavard backline. Sure Sommer is okay with basic Italian. He’s Swiss after all. But it’d probably take Benji 2 months to get a good grasp of Italian. More practical to just use English I guess? Probably easier for Bastoni to learn German tbh…

Tbh, i hated that our game relied so heavily on Onana, and how we always passed the ball to him when we were out of ideas.
