Saying the defence help is a understatement, just look at Onana if one doubt what impact our and a far worse defence has on a GK. We have one of the best defence in the world, he kept 10 clean sheets largely because our defence doesn’t allow much to begin with.

But he has definitely exceeded expectations for sure.
Yes, the defense has been a massive help. But Sommer is also very much monumental in the clean sheets. Every game he does one great save for sure!

What a signing

He's been solid since beginning of season, you can't take any bit of credit away from him but our defence deserves almost half a credit for all these clean sheets and impressive display in defensive aspect.

A bit worrying he got the wrong direction/height at every penalty. Feels like Handa was more solid in defending penalties

Almost costed us the game but then saved the penalty. Also two more great saves today.

Im not sure that was a penalty, he got to the ball first, but then the impact on Nzola's head was pretty spectacular.

That PK execution by Nico was pathetic but still gotta give credit to Sommer for making up for his own stupidity.

I thought was quite shaky tonight. Almost gifted them a cheap goal in the beginning of the match as well.

Still had some nice saves but not his usual excellent performance. I'll take it though, he can't be perfect everytime. We need him to be sharp in the derby, because in such matches details can decide the outcome.

He kept a clean sheet despite an uncharacteristic blunder in the first minute but decisive afterwards. Got punished for harsh penalty call, but he saved the penalty kicks with confidence. Also made excellent saves on Bonaventura shots.

Is this the first penalty save in the Inzaghi era? Anyone remember our last penalty save? I'm thinking Handanovic vs. Juventus on Cristiano Ronaldo in Scudetto season?

I don't think it was stupidity. He decided that he will go and clear the ball first, and he did it. This happened in a matter of seconds.
Sommer did some very good saves, and he was shaky, because the defenders a front of him were shaky. Especially SDV, who had a very poor game imo.
Actually, Sommer saved our asses where it was needed.

Ehh, he committed and he ended up connecting too much with the player. As a goalkeeper if you’re in that spot you have to touch the ball first no matter what, and he did; it’s a shame it got called but it will happen sometimes.

Not his best overall game but that open hand save on Bonaventura was an insane reaction save. One for the highlight reel for sure.
