I'm only fluent in English (speaking/writing/reading). I can read some Spanish, and read very basic French, but that's it. Ask me to write or speak either of those though and I would be very poor at it if I could do it at all.

Wish I could have learned another language to the point of fluency, but they say if you don't learn it when you're a kid, it just gets harder when you're older. And since it's not necessarily compulsory to take a foreign language course in school here, unless your parents spoke a foreign language and taught it to you, or you spent a great deal of time in a foreign country when you were growing up, it's very hard to become fluent in a second language as an American.

English, first language...Spanish & French are rising in strength...But in general, I know a lot of phrases & simple conversation in several languages...Tagalog (First girlfriend a filipina), Chinese (Sister is fluent in Mandarin), Farsi (Best friend is Persian), Italian, Azeri (Old girlfriend was Azeri), Polish, German, Korean, Ebu etc....I like picking up phrases etc. in other languages along with cultural nuances...World's getting smaller

Some German (only cos family is German) some Italian and some French. I could speak French almost fluently when I was much younger but would probably butcher it now. Learning a 2nd language isn't compulsory in North America so many people only understand and speak English fluently, which is a shame. Exceptions are Quebec where Francais is king and parts of the U.S that have a heavy Spanish-speaking influence (California, New Mexico, Arizona, Florida, etc....)
