I would recommend hitting the gym hard. Running and all the other cardio works will squeeze you and you will end up looking like a concentration camp victim

In my experience, cardio is usually very successful only for people who are especially sensitive to a calorie deficit. In almost all other regards, lifting weights is superior for weight loss and body recomposition.

Though cardio does have other great benefits for heart health, brain health etc.

15KG, damn!! Good luck. Best way to lose is not to gain in the first place. At least for me. I'm 34 (both age and waist inches), 5'10, 90KG, 14% bodyfat, I do a combination of HIIT and intermittent fasting. Been doing intermittent fasting for years (16hr on / 8hr off). In between that I do a mixture of bodyweight exercises (pullups, pushups, dips) and heavy weights (deadlifts, rows, squats, bench) and then i throw in smaller workouts like curls (tricep and bicep), calf raises, lat pulls and a bunch of forearm exercises (shoulder workouts are out the window ever since i messed up my rotator cuff, not an injury you want to get, trust me).

But end of the day we're all different so all these plans and workout regiments may or may not get you the desired result. Just keep it simple, eat at a deficit, and do a combination of heavy compound lifts and bodyweight workouts. Doing pull ups alone 4/5 times a week will make a massive difference.

I find cardio boring so try and get into a sport you enjoy, at least once a week, that has you doing a lot of sprinting, like basketball or rugby. My knees are done so right now I'm looking at doing either MMA and boxing to shed more body fat.

Wish I had 90kg but then I remember I'm a lazy, brain tumor carrying, pasta loving fuck and I go cry to my corner
However I think I found real love... Maybe just maybe things will get better

This probably belongs in the BS thread but

I go for 6-7km runs, pound my boxing bag, do some lifting weights but I can't do it on a regular since my headaches are killing me a lot of the time, and I have some kind a hormonal imbalance caused by the tumor (that what doctors say) so losing weight is even harder for me...again confirmed by experts

Oh well should focus on the positive... Kind of programmed in this way, luckily

This all reminded me of a guy I've heard of in a podcast recently, how he had a pituitary gland tumor as a teenager, how he treated it and how it all fits in with the natural improvements in testosterone. Check it out: https://www.artofmanliness.com/articles/podcast-336-increase-testosterone-naturally/

Try combining keto and IF if you hit a plateau or if you just want to optimise things. Another little trick is to use your tolerance for fasting to do Intermittent Energy Restriction once or twice a week, meaning just one low calorie meal that day comprised of mostly fat and protein.

I personally used this to get down to 6.8% body fat and I have had a client who lost 10% bf in 8 weeks with this method.

If you want to lose weight, just watch your diet and switch to diet drinks/water. Workouts will just make you hungrier and might put you at a calorie surplus if you're not careful. I'd say only try workouts if you have a personal trainer or a super detailed calorie plan.

Honestly a day-long fast once a week is perfect. Pick one day of the week, and just do a water diet for that day. It's super effective. 0 evidence that you lose muscle in that short period of fasting, especially if you're >20% body fat. Maybe if you're like 3% body fat lol.

Fasting is awesome and more people need to embrace it. But DON'T try the religious fasts for weight loss where you go without water. That's dangerous and pointless for losing weight.

Seeing old threads coming back, thought I'd bring this back.

I've been doing crossfit the last 6 months or so. Started eating much better and much more. I was always a skinny guy, so doing this I've put on a stone which I'm very happy with. And not just fat, mostly in my shoulders, arms and legs. So I look thicker now.
However, I just don't think my fitness is improving. Im constantly fucked and constantly bottom of the class (I don't care, I'm just glad I'm doing it after neglecting the gym when my football career ended with injury 10 years ago).

What you guys doing?

Nice one buddy that's absolutely awesome any kind of fitness is admirable! Crossfit is pretty tense and a lot of people who do it are super fit so don't take it to heart if you're bottom! Plenty of things you can do to improve plus over time naturally you will get better. I'm just doing weights and healthy eating as always, nothing better than throwing weights around a weight room, I only use xtrainer for cardio, I walk for 1 hour per day also. I would use a devil's bike if I could get or access one.

Doing something is always better than nothing but I would recommend moving away from crossfit, especially if you do have a history of injuries.

In fairness, a lot of the coaching is all about getting the form I right. The coaches spend a decent amount of time making sure you can get the form of the move right before you think about adding weights etc.
Might just by the specific gym but this one is all about form.

Sounds.. free but not sure if it is, haven't used it but I've seen ads. Which means it shouldn't be free, otherwise why fill the place with ads?

I've used a couple of Shaun T's workout dvd's years ago. Quite demanding.
I've signed up to a couple of Jeff Cavaliere's Athlean-X programs. Very demanding and may require some equipment.

I tried using Nike Training free app, it's actually pretty good, but I think you need to pay to get the good stuff. The free stuff is good enough for regular activity. Just couldn't find a program that suited me, at least at the time that I was checking it out.

There are also some apps by a Leap Fitness Group which are free. They have a bunch of different apps for different needs. They are all very basic which is what makes it so good. And honestly, they're the ones I was using the most and they helped a lot. They have weight training, no equipment home training, yoga stuff if you're into it, stretching stuff and generally they have an app for each muscle group. If you get loads of those you might end up being confused as you can find similar exercises, some programs are on a couple of them, so just pick one that suits you and see how it goes.
They usually have beginner, moderate and advanced 30 day courses, some have different timelines.

They're the best free stuff you could see, but the way they're showing the exercise is extremely basic. Nike Training has a much better visual of it and even better to check a certified trainer (aka Jeff Cavaliere of Athlean X that I mentioned who has a lot of youtube material) to see how some of these exercises should be done because sometimes you may screw something up and it could hurt for weeks.

Thanks @brehme1989 appreciate the answer! :)

I've signed up for a year of freeletics managed to get 50% off so thought why not, worth a try. It's already motivating me in general.

I have some videos for p90x/zumba/yoga etc but I just haven't loaded them to the TV yet but I'm really w. nting to get into them (some are wife friendly).

I'll give an update in a couple of weeks.
