Because it probably makes very little sense for Ontario and everything that comes with it (Metro Toronto, Ottawa, etc.) to operate in a different time zone than not only Quebéc but also the NE United States.
That's the bitch in this. It's not much of a problem in Europe because I can't imagine many countries have multiple time zones in them, but if one state in the ETZ wants to make a change (abolish DST or make it permanent, either of which eliminate the two days of clock changing), pretty much all the states need to follow suit or it's going to cause logistical problems. And because it's easier to just tell people "change your clocks and deal with it", nothing happens.
DST was introduced in the 1930s using 1930s practices. It's not the fucking 1930s anymore, I never lived in the 1930s, I want nothing to do with this shit personally. If anything (speaking only for Florida here because that's my familiarity), DST would make a lot more sense the other way around, if we had DST from Nov-March and then standard time from March-Nov. As it is, during DST in the summer the sun doesn't set until after 8:30 at its latest. During standard time in December, the sun sets as early as about 5:30...flip the DST time period around, and the sunset time would consistently operate between 6:30-7:30 throughout the year, which makes a lot more sense to me than what we do right now.
Now, personally I love the early winter sunsets. I like it being dark at 6:00, but I'm weird like that.
