So... Greta Thunberg. Discuss.

I cringed at her speech, way too dramatic, way too scripted. Sorry but a 16 year old isn't gonna change the world, these people are just showing her off like a trophy for couple of days until it gets old and then they move on, but she'll be stuck on it and that'll be the highlight of her life.

I read an interesting article on her this morning. It stated something I can agree with pretty well. There is nothing wrong with Greta Thunberg and the exposure she is getting. In fact it's very good. We have an engaged young generation and the people who are angry or upset at her need to grow up. She's a young girl fighting for something that is actually important, kudos.

Now the problem in this whole situation lies in the adults who hail her as the hero that will solve climate change. That is foolish and adults should know better. They should know that the radical statements she makes (corporate interest ruins the world, older generations have doomed the youger ones etc.) are hyperbolic and that these problems can't be tackled in a radical fashion. Climate change is very layered and can't be solved so easily. Greta Thunberg is a good reminder that the issue is urgent and can't be swept away, but in terms of ideas and actual policy to tackle the issue, she doesn't offer much. Most adults should be aware of that and treat it as such. Her notions should be taken seriously and should be respected, but we should also know that the problem is more complex than that.

As for the video specifically: yes, it is hyperbolic and scripted, but I think that's fine. It doesn't make the issue any less pressing. I mean come one. This girl is 16 and is having a speech in front of the UN. That's impressive and we shouldn't belittle her. The Greta-Hate is one of the most childish and ridiculous things I've seen recently.

tl;dr: What Greta does is in fact great, how adults react towards her (either with admiration or hate) is uncalled for and should stop.

I agree, I too didn't perceive her delivery as authentic. It felt like a play or some type of poetry slam - but I don't doubt that she genuinely cares about this topic a lot.

But in the end, what she did achieve is to make anyone and everyone's grandma talk about climate change again. The buzz may quickly fade but she managed to get the buzz started - even on a football forum. She couldn't have achieved that with an ordinary, non-dramatic speech.

You just gotta love the first day back at the university. The immeasurable amount of smoking hot girls (smoking), the lung cancer causing amount of passive smoke while happily contributing to it, having lunch in order to kill off some time. All that combined with a warm and sunny October day. There’s very little things I can think of right now that would be better. Sometimes you just wish for it to never end.

... and couple of years later you hate them students for killing time drinking coffee while you're navigating your way to work on Monday morning.

Man, living in Barcelona is epic. Everyday I fall in love with 100 girls on the streets, walking. Señoritas sure as hell are crazy hot in here. On the downside, I live in an appartment with 13 other people. And aside from 2, none are social minded :chan:

Anyone else find Rick and Morty highly overrated? I love South Park, Family Guy, and the sort, but R&M seems to me at best a 6/10. It's like their writers never heard of "show, don't tell" when Rick goes on his pseudo-intellectual rants.

And it's always weirdos who like that show...

I only managed to watch the first two seasons and it was a chore. Rick is highly unlikeable even though I usually like characters like that (arrested development fan).

Thematically they have a few good episodes, but they use their scientific knowledge to make fart jokes, Futurama is funnier to me. It's a 5/10 for me, which is pretty low for "the funniest show ever"

Personally I think it’s great. I haven’t watched all the episodes yet due to the fact that I subscribe to Netflix twice a year max. I still have to watch all of season 3.

But I get why it has plenty of (probably even toxic) fanboyism surrounding it. A lot of the guys rambling about it’s greatness on the internet are boys who are still in their puberty. It has a lot of topics which make the show attractive to young people like violence, strong language, sex, batshit crazy storylines etc. Though I am not comparing it to South Park it matches the same criteria, that’s why to me peak South Park (seasons 6-11) is my favorite cartoon of all time.
These days everybody is connected to the internet so it’s understandable why it gets so much hype. But because I don’t really go on many different pages I avoided it’s fanbase for the most part. To be honest I don’t really care either, people have opinions and what school boys think is irrelevant to me.

I'd also say it’s my favorite cartoon these days. Other great shows I watched are Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Archer, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Robot Chicken. Perfect for a laid back smoking session.

To put that fart of a cartoon which is family guy in the same sentence as south park is the closest thing to blasphemy I can think of.

I watched a couple of episodes. I think I gave it a fair shot but I never even came close to see what all the hype is about. I respect all the imagination and artistry that went into the production but I really don't give a fuck about the main characters so the show has little to no chance to get me hooked.

Early seasons of Family Guy was gold and better than whatever the Simpsons put out when it first aired. R&M is such a try hard copy of Futurama without any charm and clever comedy.
