Smalling is Roma's best defender and they're practically begging him to stay

Reports saying, either he renews, or we concentrate on Smalling... Lets hope he doesn't renew.
This is just fucking pathetic. And it's a perfect example of why I'm so disappointed by Marotta.

You're one of the most respected, accomplished and well-paid directors in Italian football. Are you telling me the only 2 fucking options you can possibly fabricate are:
  1. Extending a 31 year old de Vrij for 2 years at a whopping €3.8m per season - a guy whose form and market value has plummeted because he's been fucking SHIT for 18 months, a guy who has been benched by a 35 year old bench player?

  2. Signing a rapidly declining 34 year old on a 2 + 1 year deal with a colossal salary of €3.5m + €1m bonuses?
Is that seriously, seriously the best you can do? How disappointing and outright incompetent.

Come on, the rhetoric is that good transfers are by Marotta and bad transfers by Ausilio and/or coach.

Stop being a nay sayer.

Borderline sackable.

Napoli sold Koulibaly and replaced him with a relatively unknown CB from South Korea. Didn’t cost them very much either. Their iconic captain also departed and got some kid from Georgia that’s transformed them. Again cost them very little money.

If this club is gonna be dead broke under Suning, at least broaden the horizons. There’s good players outside of Italy.

The best gamble we had was on croatian players, where 3 of 4 were actually good for us (Vrsaljko was mid and too injury prone)

Otherwise it's just big names, veterans, italians and argentines.

Inters issue is if not Italian then get the next Brazilian or Argie wonder kid.

Well the last u20 qualifiers happening now. Argentina finished 4th in their group they didn’t even make it to the 2nd round. Can’t wait till one of you come on here hyping half those players in 3 months when a snake oil salesmen says they are the next Messi

If that was the case, for all the nonsense crzd talks about Argentina, they should have won 10 titles in the past 15 years.

There is a bigger problem than his form or decline, is that I don't think he really cares that much anymore, like it even seems okay to him to be benched.
Like normally a player would train hard to get back his first team role, but nope he is like, this is just my job, I just going to do the routine and get my fat paycheck; the problem is this game needs to put in some grit, aerial challenges for example, you cannot just jump and head the ball, you need to fight for it sometimes.

For people that thinks he sucks cause we are not playing low block, is just not true, he just lacks the focus these days to be in the right spot for counter interceptions, and situations that needs him to put in some determination to fight for the ball he just doesn't fight hard enough anymore, worst one was he just stood there one time; I mean that is not a sign of ability decline, like it is not like being too slow or too weak, he just stood there.

I normally don't write off players, but I gave up on him 1-2 years ago already? the only reason I good with keeping him this year, is changing the GK and the mid CB in the same year worries me a bit of the play from the back chemistry, but Acerbi and Onana are just fine so ...

I mean it is not bad to have him on the bench but for €3.8m in our situation? I think we can sign someone on 1-2m similar to what he is currently offering; as a back up someone like Rolando is alright, like getting the basic right, don't need to be spectacular; but I guess if you include transfer fees, it would probably end up the same.

De Vrij started declining on the second half of last season. Id say it has alot to do with Inzaghi. Acerbi is a fairly similar player and he is thriving under Inzaghi.
I rated De Vrij as one of the top defenders in Europe but his form plummeted and there was no sign of recovery.

Pastorello said Inter's extension offer for De Vrij is satisfactory but it's up to the player to decide his future
