Yeah they do. Many players lose it in a short time. Football doesn't care about how good you WERE a year ago. For whatever reasons, if you can't keep your form up you will lose your spot and quickly fade into irrelevance in no time. There are dozens of examples of great players turning into mediocrity in a short period of time once they stop taking their job seriously.I understand the guys performances have not been up to standard but a solid defender doesn’t lose it in 1.5 seasons. Something else is going on.
I was blaming inzaghi too hut remember he was an absolute rock under inzaghi at lazio, so that can't be the full reason. Guy just looks done. I'd say he's just not as committed anymore. Apparently he used to do hours of research before games individually but now he's into music etc.Under Spalletti he was a solid cb while not exactly a perfect fit for a back 4. Under Conte the guy was our best cb. Ever since 2021 summer he has declined so badly he's getting benched by 35-year old Acerbi now. Is it the contract extension than never materialized? Is it Inzaghi's high defensive line compared to the lower block of Spalletti and Conte? Whatever it is it looks like there's no turning back for the guy. The signs are there. We can't ignore them.
Come on, there's zero evidence of this claim.I was blaming inzaghi too hut remember he was an absolute rock under inzaghi at lazio, so that can't be the full reason. Guy just looks done. Yes there isCome on, there's zero evidence of this claim.
Liverpool 2005, their squad was horrible. Only Gerrard and young Xabi Alonso were good back then, others were mediocre to decent at best, and they managed to beat Capello's Rube, Mourinho's Chelsea, and prime BbilanWhich team it was?
Villarreal offered de Vrij a two-year contract worth around the €4 million net per season that he currently earns, whilst the Nerazzurri want to lower his wages on a new deal.
Yellow submarine trying to sign him speaks volumes about his current level...
3m seems a little bit too much, if he will be the 4th or 5th in packing order. We need to reduce the payroll.Honestly not against the idea of keeping him for two more seasons for ~€3m a year.
Bastoni - Acerbi - Smalling - De Vrij - Darmian is a good defensive core if we can add another youthful center back who's a good athlete with decent feet.
Probably knows that someone is banging his wife.3m seems a little bit too much, if he will be the 4th or 5th in packing order. We need to reduce the payroll.
2 years ago he was arguably the best defender in Serie A. Wtf happened to him? He was also excellent under Limone at Lazio so I just cannot understand. He is 30yo, actually in his prime.
I think the reported fee we were willing to pay was €2.5m, but since trying to replace him in our current financial situation would be disastrous, I'd err on the side of paying him a little extra as a stopgap.3m seems a little bit too much, if he will be the 4th or 5th in packing order. We need to reduce the payroll.

@nelsonrivas2011Spalletti spotted the issue. And we laughed.
"He's sensitive".
He seems to have been rather emotial with a semi-permanent impairment after our management decided to backtrack from contract talks last in November 2021. Ever since, we've been looking at Nelson Rivas in the body of De Vrij.
He won't play more than Ranocchia was in his last year. So 3M is too much, more like 2M max would be fine for his playing time and performance.Honestly not against the idea of keeping him for two more seasons for ~€3m a year.

Is none of the above an option?Reports saying, either he renews, or we concentrate on Smalling... Lets hope he doesn't renew.
