Sinisa Mihajlovic Interview

I can hardly wait for the sixth child

Sinisa Mihajlovic, our famous football player, assistant coach at Italian Inter, will become a father for the sixth time! In his marriage with Italian TV-presenter Arianna he has two sons and two daughters; the oldest son is of the out-marriage relationship and ultrasound says that the sixth child will also be the boy. "I can hardly wait for the sixth child! This one and no more. Six is enough. I hope that the fourth son will be a "left foot" as I am, that he will shoot by left foot!" says Sinisa laughing in the same time in his interview for "Blic".

We haven't decided yet what his name will be. We make that decision in democratic way, the whole family is voting. My wife, five children and I have the same right. I can see already that the name won't be the Serbian one. But, we will see. I can tell you that my family elections are as furious and tensed as parliamentary elections in Serbia were! (smile)

What is the way you raise your children like?

I teach them work and discipline. They are very well organized and it is well known when it is to do homework, to go to sleep… I don't spend much time with my children because only three days of seven I am at home, but I give my best to use that time in the best way. We go together to the cinema, Zoo, we play in house, watch movies…We talk a lot…

What is the language you communicate in?

Well…Mostly in Italian. At the beginning I spoke to my children in Serbian, but it needed too much time to explain what I wanted, so I had to move to Italian. It doesn't work. It is also easier for me, I got used to that.

You were fighting often when you were a boy…

Hh, I have fought also when I've grown up!

When did you fight last time?

It happens often. Well, I don't fight now in the complete sense of that word, but when somebody is impolite, I pull his ears and slap him!

What are the situations like that?

When I walk the city with my family, often some fool can say something offensive. What else I can do but slap him? I am explosive, but I am always right. What can I do when I have the short fuse?! I start counting till ten, but I get only two!

Are you seeing your best man Dejan Stankovic?

We live in the same building, so we meet each other every day. We often have dinner together, but, believe it or not, we almost don't talk about football. As other people, we avoid to talk about business in eating-house.

In the name of love for children you became UNICEF "Ambassador of a good will". You help children of Kosovo, war orphans…

I help wherever I can and who I can, but I don't like to talk about that.

Why? Your actions could motivate other people.

No way. A man can understand and realize it alone or he never understands that the part of his money could give somebody and help. I often take children from the Children village from Sremska Kamenica on summer on winter vacation with my kids. My heart is fulfilled when I see their smile. If I buy them something, they jump of happiness, but this mine wouldn't be delighted even by an airplane!

Are you afraid that the money you own could spoil your children?

It is the danger that threatens to all good standing people. I told them that they have to be excellent students, to get faculty degree, to get work…If they fulfill that – I will give them everything, if don't, they will get nothing. Since they were a little, I have developed their working habits and given them tasks. If they realize them, they get a present. If not, I forbid something they like to do, tennis for example.

At the age of seven you wrote in schoolwork that you would become a football player. Do you always realize what you plan?

Always! I like challenges and I am never satisfied with achieved. As I realize one goal, I point to another, greater. There is not a thing that man can't achieve if he decides to do that. I got my dreams realized at my private and business level. It is important to believe in yourself, being stubborn, disciplined and intelligent. The will is the most important. A man has to tempt himself all the time. A few days ago I had a plan to run for an hour. After certain time I wanted to give up, but I set my teeth and ran hour and a half without break. It is the same in everything in life! The goals are being achieved like that.

There are some rumors that you are vain.

I am glad for that. In some way that is my defense. Earlier I had correct relations with everybody, but about dozen of times I got burned. Many used my goodness. The apparent vanity protects me of that people now.

Thanks for sharing Alexandar. Informative interview. Didn't realise Sinisa was such a big scorer off the pitch as well.

Happy bday, Sinisa!
It wasn't 20 January in US yet. :)

Buon complanno, Sinisa!

I wasn't his biggest fan when he was an Inter player but surely, as Mancini's #2, he deserves some credit in our incredible run this season.

Say what you want about him, he deserves a lot of credit for his knowledge, both about life and calcio. He's no doubt one of the smarter players I think, except when he's raging with anger :)

Mihajlovic: "Novi Sad, 28 May 2007"
Saturday, 19 May 2007 15:10:04

APPIANO GENTILE - Sinisa Mihajlovic was accompanied in the press room at Inter's training ground by Marco Materazzi and Dejan Stankovic for the presentation of his testimonial match, to take place in Novi Sad on 28 May.

At the stadium of Serbian side FK Vokvodina, where Mihajlovic began his glittering career, a host of the ex-defender's friends and team-mates will celebrate Roberto Mancini's assistant coach as he bids farewell to the game.

Sinisa will wear the number eleven shirt, and will don the black and blue colours of Italian champions Inter in the first half before switching to a specially made white jersey for the second period.

During Saturday's presentation of the much awaited testimonial, Mihajlovic thanked Inter, the Novi Sad local authorities, and the sponsors who have made possible the event, to take place in front of a sell-out 12,000 crowd.

The proceeds will go to two charities - the Sos Children's Villages association, of which Sinisa is a collaborator, and the Savez za skolski sport association for disabled people. The game will be broadcast by Pink TV in Serbia, and Sky Italia.

"Mancini will wear an Inter shirt for the first time as a player," revealed Mihajlovic. "He has never managed to be decisive in his career, unlike myself, but we still haven't decided if he will be in the starting lineup..." Mancini's reply was not long in coming: "It's true, it will be my first time with an Inter shirt. Sinisa said I might not play? He's not the coach..."

Between one joke and another, Sinisa added: "I could have organised the match in Belgrade, Rome, Genoa or Milan, the cities that have hosted me during my career, and which I am very attached to. But in the end I chose Novi Sad because it's from there that I started out.

"I am pleased to invite singers and celebrities, and there will be fireworks, but I asked the organisers not to stage a grand evening. It will be nice, of course, but we are trying to cut the costs as much as we can so the two charity associations can be given as much money as possible. They really need the money to carry forward important projects, and I want all my people to share this objective with me."

Tickets for Sinisa's testimonial, to include a copy of his biography, will go on sale at the Hotel Park in Novi Sad from Tuesday 22 May.

Mancini will participate in this farewell event and he will be wearing Inter shirt :)

wow, maybe he realised the trend of giving the national reigns to an inexperienced manager would destroy his chances of ever getting hired to a real team

not to say van basten or klinnsmann didnt do good jobs or even dunga, but seriously, its not always going to be all nice and rosy
