Imagine Inzaghi started Lukaku, benched Skriniar for Darmian, and started Brozovic instead of Mikha. He would have went against the players performing on the pitch to address the weaknesses or strengths of the immediate opponent.

This is problematic because he would have come across as trying to fix something that ain’t broken.

Considering Dzeko didn’t perform, Brozovic showed his experience and quality, and Darmian being in real form, no one can criticize Inzaghi for starting these three next week. Also, same applies to Gosens ahead of Dimarco.

Manager may be very aware of these issues, but to bench 4 of your starters wouldn’t go down well with the players, media, or directors. The problem became evident and he subbed in Gosens and Lukaku around the 55th minute, which is early.
We’ll see in 2 weeks. If we lose the tie I think it will be due to yesterday’s game

The approach was too scary yesterday. I understand we wanted to play it this way, not to take too many risks. But IMO at Meazza, we should try to pile all the pressure on the opponent. Because it's gonna be hard at Dragao to do it.

We indeed got lucky with the red card, we wouldn't have scored without that, pretty sure about that.

It's super interesting to see how we will approach these 3 games before the 2nd leg (Bologna (A), Lecce and Spezia (A)) with the rotation.

Tuchel’s Chelsea wasn’t that great either.. it’s a weak tournament this year. With a bit of luck, who knows. I still don’t see us getting passed Real, Bayern. They’re more professional squads.
Yep, but Di Matteo's Chelsea was exceptionally weak in comparison.

I'd say the last two winning Real Madrid sides were also not as dominant as the press would have us believe.

The Milan side that won in 2007 was also shit. We wiped the floor with them that season and were easily better than them in every department. So we don't have to go back two decades to find weak winners like @Superminion suggested.

That was my earlier point: no team remaining in the tournament is at their peak performance levels bar Napoli.

I can see us fluke past anyone.

I probably misunderstood the meaning of "worse side", I thought it mean "worse collection of players" instead "worse performance in the league".
If you mean worst performance in the league, then you're rights, there's several teams (notably di Matteo Chelsea, I'm not sure of 2007 bbilan or any Real teams of last decade is a "worse side than current inter") who has won it. Individually though, some of the name on the those teams, are way more impressive than anyone we currently have in our teams.
Time will tell, if the likes of barella, lautaro or lukaku has it them to be "2005 Gerrard, 2007 kaka/inzaghi, or 2012 Drogba (I obviously hope they will, wouldn't it be nice to win for the forth time?)

2007 Milan weren't shit. It was a quality squad. They were just old. And since their ageing squad made it impossible for them to fight in two fonts they chose to focus on CL where there are fewer games and experience matters a lot more (also because of points deduction in the league).

Let's beat Porto first, then Inter can hope for miraculous fitness and form recovery to advance further.

That squad was great, they dismantled one of the best Fergie ManU. Pirlo, Seedorf, Gatusso, Kaka, brutal midfield.

That's what I mean by "better collection of individuals". Both of 2007 bbilan & 2012 Chelsea has many "proven champion" (players who has previously pvove himself and won big trophies). They may be past their prime or lost motivation in the league games etc and can't perform consistently for 38 league games but still has it in them to perform at highest level for a few games (CL knockout to finals is only 7 games in total).
The closest things we have to "proven champions" tier is barella who is euro cup winner with Italy & wc finalist brozovic with croatia (you can add lautaro to that list, but it's kind of a scretch since his impact in Argentina wc campaign is minimal or non existent).

Hence why I said to @Helenio Herrera that he has to go back to 2005 Liverpool to find a "far worse side than current inter". That Liverpool don't anyone who is considered as "superstar/champion" other than maybe Gerrard, (although Xabi Alonso later prove himself to be one of the great champions of his generation)

That Milan side was the last hurrah of their old guard, but come on now they had a hard time beating Celtic.

Chelsea side was quite similar in that aspect; Cole, Lampard, Drogba etc. were all in the twilight of their careers.

I guess you could say that they had aging legends in their squads but they really weren't all that great compared to some other teams in the competition.

If Inzaghi fused with Conte they would create a beast of a coach.
I am watching Atletico and I absolutely dislike their formation. It is just a weird, absolutely non attractive set up. Attackers are so isolated and the team just has these big gaps no players are trying to fill. I kinda like Simeone's spirit but thats a big ass nope for me.
