Julio Cesar: Was hardly tested this game with real difficult shots. He was however very secure and didn't make a single mistake. I would be content with him as our first keeper, if we only sold Toldo. He looks extremely calm between the posts and isn't a circus keeper as many South American keepers can be.

Javier Zanetti: Shined in the second half, both offensively and defensively.

Ivan Cordoba: Not one of his best matches at all. Is as usual useless with the ball and passes, but it isn't his job. He made some interceptions that saved him at times. There's definitely room for improvement.

Marco Materazzi: Was great in the air, but his ridiculous tackles meant that Shakthar had some dangerous free-kicks. I am getting increasingly tired of those pointless free-kicks he causes us. Especially during the first half. However, as a back-up he is good and does a decent job.

Giuseppe Favalli: Didn't participate at all in the offensive game, but had a decent game defensively. He makes his average performances as usual, where you're always calm but never impressed. It works for me anyway.

Dejan Stankovic: Was utter crap in the first half, except for that pass to Martins. He simply vanishes in our midfield, but when Veron was subbed off and Stankovic had switched flank, he was more involved with the game and also a puzzle in our first goal. We're still witnessing an average Stankovic from his point of view.

Juan Veron: Didn't have any special match at all. Was very slow on the ball and takes up too much space on our midfield. Normally he's much better than this though, so I'm not worried.

Esteban Cambiasso: Not the same Cambiasso as last season, which is understandable. Didn't win as much balls, but had a good positional match. Should have scored twice, but one was a great save, and the other was wrong decision for which foot to use.

Santiago Solari: He's trying and all, but he's making absolutely no impact on our team. He had one cross, which was failed and spend the entire time looking for an overlap.

Obafemi Martins: Was having difficulties with the ball, and also wasted one great chance alone with the keeper. He scored a goal however, but he can do much better.

Adriano: One great assist and a great goal. Still overdribbles, but I guess he'll do that forever. Shakthar had three markers on him, so it wasn't easy, but he had a good match.

Ze Maria: The genius strikes again! One cross, and bang, there's a goal. Immediately made an impact when he came on.

David Pizarro: Totally owned the midfield when he came on, and just look at how fast our midfield plays with him. He passed the ball to Stankovic, which also contributed to his team-mate being more involved with the game. He had one failed pass to Martins, that's the only pass I could count he failed with.

First of all I want to thank toss_it_up ur a freakin legend for giving that great link, as I got the whole 2nd half without problems.

About our team  really man this squad has it all, the playmakers, the workers, the stars, the flashy boys, just look at today's game and u will see what I mean. Adriano and Oba :star: Incredible skills they showed at times and considering this was our first real game and the opponent had won all his previous matches, it will indeed take some stopping when we hit the groove. :)

Having bought players like W.Samuel,S.Solari,Luis Figo,D.Pizarro,Julio Cesar we are at leats 10 times stronger than last year and with some Mancio magic we will be the real Show-Team of this season.

Man what a performance and the goals were f*cking awesome, pity that we didnt make it a 5-0. As we created so many good chances. Also the clean-sheet makes me happy :star:. Julio Cesar has kept 7 games now including pre-season and he has only let 1 goal in that also from a penalty  .

I knew this guy had the potential and I was happy when we bought him in January, believe me he will become a star :proud:

As for shakhtar they are dead and burried.

FORZA INTER

:star: :proud:

I'm still pessimistic about the return leg though. If it was during normal circumstances, I could be remotelly calm. However, I am worried how our players will react on an empty stadium. The chances of it feeling like a training match can occur.

So we aren't there yet. We have a great advantage though.

The oppositions players can also react badly to those circumstances.

We have to be carefull but I think its the same for both teams playing behind closed doors.

Solari was crap i think that Figo's 10 times better and we saw that Stankovic can play great at the left flank....I can't believe that Veron has the lowest rating on voting in Inter.it....i think he was good he won more balls then cambiaso did he made some great passes...as always

Jimmy

Accurate observations. So far my fear over Solari have been correct, unfortunately. The difference between him and Stankovic is that average Deki isn't useless, he contributes in a way that sometimes doesn't meet the eye. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's the case, but I'm afraid we once again managed to do bad winger deals.

Average Deki contributes by playing defense. Hard defense too.

Good but not exactly up-lifting report Jimmy. ;) I only caught the last 30 minutes so I trust your judgement.

Solari isn't as half a player Deki is so i don't think he'll ever get a chance to play again in the first team...as soon as Figo starts playing.
Figo on the right and Deki on the left :-D

Come on Pod, you are smarter and more knowledgable to say that. It's still pre-season, and he hasn't recovered fully. We can't judge him this early, let him settle first. He is new to Serie A, it's not like Pizarro.

Pod, he would still rock in Spain, he is a good player. It's just that in Italy soft players like him rarely succeed. You all know the legend that spanish players doesn't succeed in Italy; well it's not about the nationality but the league.

Jimmy a good post as usual :star:

And I agree with you

Solari was a huge flop. And that is what I expect him to be. His fitness level is really bad. If he don't improve drastically we should just kick him out as fast as possible when the transfer market re opens, Another reason why we have to keep Kily.

What I have noticed and I'm sure all of you have and that is that the 3 players we have gotten from Real all had a very bad physique. And that worries me a bit, especially when two of them are meant to be starters.
