It wasn't rather about being illegal. It's about fairness. There is some good point in this rule but imo, it shouldn't be 5-6. Maybe 3/4-8/7 rather.

What fairness?? If the local player is good enough he will play, if he isn't the club look elsewhere.

I am for homegrown players develop by the clubs but I am not for specific nationalities being protected. Hence I like the cl league rules but dislike this rule.

I prefer it will be 6 homegrown players + 5 than 6 italians + 5, because In that rule Inter will depend on what we have in the Primavera and not depend on the quality of the italian footballers.

This is completely about being an illegal rule. Even if FIFA wanted it to be 10+1, it would have been illegal. Even if FIFA wanted at least one home grown player on the bench, it would have been illegal.

There's nothing illegal about it.
In basketball there are foreigner rules. (the Euroleague and Spain have no limits, the rest have quotas)
In volleyball there are foreigner rules.
Only football has allowed EU nations to be one nation.

So FIFA/UEFA can do whatever they want. It's just that they can't, because the football clubs are too powerful now
