I’ve got to say, his passing from the back has come a LONG way. Honestly it’s underrated part of his game, he’s better with his feet then a lot of people give him credit for and he does it under immense pressure at times. Respect
I remember when Spalletti came and introduced his "play from the back" style. I thought it was completely incompatible with the team we had at the time, Handanovic in particular.
Up until that point, Handanovic had shown zero indication that he was capable of playing in such a manner. He seemed to lack the technique / ball skills, the composure and the sense of mind to play in that "modern" sweeper keeper fashion. He was always a top shot stopper, but using his feet? I wasn't sure he could reliably act as an outlet for recycling possession and be involved in our build up.
Massive, massive credit where it's due though. At 34 years old, the improvement in this regard was nothing short of remarkable. His ball skills, use of his feet, passing under pressure, first touch, composure etc. have all increased drastically. He's still no Ter Stegen of course, but you have to respect such impressive growth at such a late stage in Handanovic's career. And yes, shout out to Spalletti and whoever our GK coach is (or was at the time) for their involvement in his development.

I wish musso could become his successor here.
Random question. Officially speaking do we still have a vice captain? (Like Cordoba to Zanetti)
Would that be Double D or Rano?
