Not even half a season. 3 months. He wasn't starting for Atalanta before October. 30m for someone who has started just 8 games at Atalanta this season and a year ago he was struggling for regular playing time at Vicenza. I really hope that kid ends up really good for us but this deal reminds me of EPL clubs hugely overpaying for English promising youngsters.

Bu..but he's Italian!!

According to CdS, he'll earn 600k till June and then he'll sign a new contract till 2021 earning 1,5m/year+bonuses.
Il Drago shared this info in the midfielders thread, but it's useful to know here in his thread.

We must gradually rise the level of the squad so we can ensure UCL qualification. In winter we cannot spend big due to FFP, hence the "LOAN" deal for Gagliardini.
Once UCL participation is secured, we can attract top calibre players, like Verratti. But the asking price will be obscene, I expect anything between €60-80m.

From what I understand, the closest midfielder in Inter to Gagliardini is Kondogbia? If so, this probably means that the Kondo man isn't in Inter's future plans. We can't have one of the highest paid players in the team to stay on the bench. We already have Mario, Banega, Brozovic, and most likely Gagliardini and Gustavo/Leiva. We're probably just waiting for some club to make an acceptable offer for Kondogbia.

I don't think so. The little I have seen of Gigliardini is that he is a CM who can also play deep playmaker. Kondogbia is a b2b, he is misused at Inter as a CM/DM. The closest to Gig should be Banega.

I still don't get what are we doing spending so much money on another CM. Buy a proper FB/CB/DM for fucks sake.

Great stuff as usual from Wobblycock

Why not? Every media outlet was reporting before this season that we would certainly sell at least one big player to finance our mercato. Icardi, Brozovic and Handanovic were the most rumored names to be sold. In the end, not only did we sell no one, we instead bought fucking expensive players like Joao Mario for €45m, Candreva for €22m and Gabigol for €28m. That tells me Suning have money. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting we can now compete with Madrid etc and buy the Pogba's and De Bruyne's of the world, but I'm convinced we have a respectable amount of spending power. Again, still early days, but from the current financial perspective, it doesn't bother me at all to have an expensive player like Kondogbia sit on the bench. Now, if he can perform well and his quality and output as a player begins to reflect his salary, then even better for us.

With all that said, I'm somewhat divided about this Gagliardini transfer. On one hand, I'm still in holiday-mode and I just don't give a shit right now. On the other hand, how can it not bother me that regardless of any great wealth we might have, we're apparently paying close to €30m for this 22yr old who has played just thirteen Serie A games in his fucking life, averaging 60 minutes per match? Of course it fucking bothers me. It bothers the fuck out of me.

Guys, nobody knows how will Gagliardini turn. When we bought Kondogbia, many people were excited and he's turned to a flop. And his transfer fee and wage are much more than Gagliradini's one. Kondogbia was "more" proven than the italian but anyway he flopped, so lets give a time to the guy. Pioli knows how to use the strengths of his players and i think he can polish Gagliardini if he stays long enough. Another plus is that Pioli wanted a registra and Gagliardini is closer to this description more than any other player in the squad.

60-80m is hardly obscene, that's one Renato Sanchez or 2-2.5 Gagliardini.

Isn't Veratti basically a regista, pretty much what we hope Gags here turns out to be?

Doesn't have enough games under his belt or relevant experience to justify his price tag, definitely. So I have to hope!? ... I don't like this feeling one bit! Right now, it's all about his mentality as far as I am concerned. Another fucking roller-coaster ride! I hope he turns out great then.

After examining his game on YouTube clips I can say he looks like a Vieira/Pogba hybrid
However even Melo looks cool on the Tube so...we can't judge quality there and yes we are overpaing as Atalanta's jewels are over hyped atm
Rube are paying 25mil for Caldara tho.

He has never really been played as a regista, his best games have come next to Motta and Matuidi in midfield. Motta was the regista, Matuidi was kind of a box to box destroyer like Vidal was for Juve, and Veratti was a CM most comparable to someone like Modric.

Can this guy play as a DM if not then why are we signing him? We don't need another box to box here.

The loan is only for FFP reasons.

There is no way the club will judge a 22/23 year old purely on the next 6 months to decide if they want to splash 25m on him.

If the loan fee is 6m, then that does not help from the FFP point of view at all. Its possibly a cash flow or transactional arrangement.

Yes, if you pay such a high loan fee it means you plan to buy the player. However knowing Inter, we will probably judge the kid well before 6 months...

I think it's the bad decisions since the Suning takeover (Mancini, De Boer and Gabigol case) that make some folks skeptical about this too.

I've never seen Gagliardini play, but judging by WhoScored stats, he can play both DM and CM role. If you check the players positions in the website, you will see that he has played some games in the holding position, while Kessié had more freedom to move forward.

Anyway, I'm unsure about this deal, it's too much money involved for a player with certain age that became a starter two months ago. There is a considerable chance of flop.

I'm actually very excited about this transfer. I think these are the chances that make sense to take. A promising youngster with a high ceiling. If it works, it's a huge win for us, if not, well I think he's at least a rotation option. So, I'm really excited about it. Especially since DM has been a pretty big hole in our team as of late.

Yup, a case of too much money and too little sense. We spent 75m on Gabigol and Mario, when we needed defenders/DM. Now we plan to spend 25m on a kid who is like 7 games old and might have looked better than he is because the entire team was playing well. And again we ignore the defenders we need so badly.

We have seen this before. M Moratti was really stupid with his big money for the first 10 years. So maybe in 10 years time.....

I'd argue that a DM is a high priority as well. I think the next target we're looking at is an RB, so I don't think we're ignoring anything, but if a good opportunity comes up (which I think this is), it'd be stupid to ignore it because we're looking at something else.
