I wish we had a coach who could see what the best formation is for this team, the formation that brought us the treble: 4-2-3-1

Are our defenders still gonna be good 10 years after today because of the fact that they were good in that treble season?

I said many times in summer I have no idea how the men in charge cannot fucking see the need to get defenders and proper mobile central midfielders in. Now I stand by that claim more than ever.
My point exactly.. and this is why I blame Moratti and Branca..

It wasn't only Gasperini's fault. He did great subs imho, and did well to not bring Pazzo in. Sure, 3-4-3 brought too much space for them, but Julione screwed it up as well. It was a nice game overall, we should have won it, but life goes on, there's a long season ahead.

FORZA INTER! ANDIAMO RAGAZZI!

The subs were great and that gasperini reacted quicly. But how can we win against any team if we suffer like that in defence.

Is there any other team that use a formation where most of the players play out of their positions? :palm:

lets buy messi :yao:
I swear Messi will fail in the Italian league. IMO, we have a very great squad, we just need a coach who can organize them well..

The number of fouls committed by Inter show me two things: 1) Lack of pace in the defensive areas, thus a need to give cheap FKs 2) an overall lack of experience with a 3-4-3, thus large amounts of space being exposed by the MF/DFs

Currently, Inter lack two players that would make the 3-4-3 actually work. A younger, faster Deki and a quicker, more skilled central DF. There was way too much space between the MF and back three...Palermo could have drove a fucking truck through there at times. Pace is necessary to cover those holes, as almost all of Palermo's attacks came on a counter attack. The only other way to combat the counter attack would be to play Obi and Alvarez at CM (with a future for Poli) as they are the best MFs on the ball.

I knew it would be trouble the second I saw a MF duo of Deki and Cuchu. Deki no longer has the pace and Cuchu doesn't have the touch or the pace to be utilized in this system. Add into it the problem of Lucio dropping defensive duties to charge forward, leaving far too much space for the likes of Samuel to cover.

I was impressed with Alvarez, Obi, and Jonathan; and to an extent Forlan.

It is moronic to think Gasp will drop the 3-4-3 after only one loss. I'm still going to give him the benefit of the doubt and allow him to continue working with the squad and finding the best 11. I am holding my opinion until the middle of October, and I think it would be beneficial, atleast for personal sanity, that other users here would do the same.

IMO, starting lineup for CL tie: JC; Frog, Lucio, Zanetti; Jonathan, Alvarez, Cambiasso, Obi, Nagatomo; Sneijder; Pazzini. Utilize cambiasso in front of back three allowing to Alvarez/Obi/Sneijder to combine. If shit gets real dire, Sub Zarate on for Nagatomo and hope he can make something happen.

I think we should play a 4-3-2-1 diamond formation ....
j.cesar
jonhatan____lucio__samuel____zanetti

(after recovery) maicon__cambiasso___obi

forlan____sneijder

milito (or pazzini)
......Or 4-3-1-2 with sneijder behind milito(pazzin-forlan

Obviously we were way too open in central midfield.. every time we lost possession it was 5 palermo players against 3 defenders, not good. Like someone said, Cuchu or somebody else needs to be played deep to cover the defense.

And our defenders were SO SLOPPY today.. just look at that 4th goal. Pinilla dribbling, lining up the shot, drinking some tea. Lucio and Samuel watching like it's a tea party. Just let him shoot guys, cause that's what we do these days. Wtf..

Some pretty good attacking play too tho. Let's look at the positives! Forza Inter!

I already stated it in my post. The 3-4-3 brought too much space for Palermo, but Julione wasn't at his best either.

I still dont know why 3 coaches in a row play Cuchu in an advanced role of a CM when Mou made it Captain Obvious level obvious that his place is just in front of the defence.

What a horrible starting line up. Didn't know four new signings all playing together for the first time would be a good idea.... No idea why Pazzini didn't start... Zarate looked pretty intimidated. Gasperini used his subs to fix the problems that would have never occurred had he got his startling line up right. Three man defense worries me.

Benitez played that formation but with a high defense, and Cambiasso was nowhere to be seen because Benitez also thought that playing him in front of defense (as Mourinho used to do) wasn't Barcelonesque enough for his taste so he tried him near the attack.

This. our defense is just too slow and old atm.

As I said before, I have no idea how have we won the CL with this squad, but I am sure it is not because of the 4-2-3-1 formation.
It's because of Mourinho, and ofc the players played much better under him.

We played So what are your thoughts? Do you really think we can do much better with a 4-2-3-1?

We played 4-2-3-1 @Bayren aswell with this formation, and if you guys remember we were so lucky to not finish the first half down by 5 goals.

The change happend when we subbed coutinho in, played much better, and with him we dominanted Bayren and at last, we scored.

So at the end it was no 4-2-3-1 that brought us to the quarter finals.

Ofc 3-4-3 is maybe good for inter in fifa but not in reality, yet I don't think we would do so much better with the 4-2-3-1..

As being said before, the problem is much deeper than just some formation, and yeah I think saying that we can stand a chance to win anything this yaer, just because of the 4 man defense is plain unrealistic

It is because of a 4-2-3-1 we played and also the fact that we played our players in their best positions and roles.

In the 3-4-3 we played today, Lucio, Samuel, J.Z., Cuchu, Nagatomo are playing out of their position. Close to their ideal yes, but still out of it.

In the 4-2-3-1, everyone even Pandev was playing at his best position.
