Meanwhile in Milan:

Official: San Siro candidate to host Champions League Final
The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan, also commonly known as San Siro, has formally put forward the candidacy as host of the Champions League Final.

The Mayor of Milan confirmed the proposal to take on the Final in either 2026 or 2027.

This would see the return of the biggest game in club football to Milan after a decade, since Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid in a penalty shootout in 2016.

The news comes at an interesting time, when both Inter and Milan have announced plans to quit the arena and build their own stadiums outside the city.

Both clubs are tentatively planning to open their doors for the start of the 2028-29 campaign, so the Champions League Final could be close to a last hurrah for this iconic stadium.

They are frustrated at the refusal of Government to allow a transformation of the Stadio Meazza into a modern arena, protecting it with the same laws that were created to prevent the destruction of historic buildings of architectural importance.

By refusing to modernise, they risk turning San Siro into an empty relic.
UEFA will confirm the hosts of the 2026 and 2027 Champions League Finals in May 2024.

man.... in the US we would have 50 cities sucking our dicks and letting us smash their grandmas or daughters for us to move there and build us a state of the Art stadium for free (cough tax payer money) so we didn't leave town.

In Italy it's like you need to bribe everyone and then let them fk you no lube then beg for them to even consider your proposal to make their town/city better....

You wouldn't have 70k people coming to Inter matches every week in US. Top level European football is very local thing, specially the supporting, SPECIALLY the hardcore supporting (ultras like Curva groups) which is essential for clubs. Specially for a club like Inter.

Not saying move inter to the US. Just how different it is. Teams pretty much hold cities by the balls threating to leave. I remember the New England Patriots (Boston) said they were moving to the state next door Connecticut(where I live). CT actually started building and buying all the stuff they promised the Patriots to move over (The stadium was built and the US National team plays there every once in a while). Well Boston came back and was like fine we will build you Gillette stadium. Nothing was done to the Pats they didn't lose any money and those who "invested" to bring them over pretty much got FKd

I wouldn't appreciate clubs (in US franchises) being the leeches of public money.
Despite the Americans thinking they are capitalist, they have a ton of corporate welfare. Privatize the upside and socialize the downside. The Dems are complete morons there.

Yeah, this is mostly true. It's mostly because the organizations have complete monopolies over the player pool.

Yet the American franchises are money printing machines, whereas the Europeans ones bleed cash and pile up debt.

Compared to Americans, Europeans are cheap, we steal TV and buy fake shirts.

American sports are generally and fundamentally franchise based where money rules and where you can hire a team like a common, yeah you can probably figure the last part out. “fans”/spectators also change teams like it was a pair of undergarments. There like 4 teams in NFL that never moved and where it’s closer to that of what we see, the rest are for sale for the highest bidder, it’s a bit repulsive for my personal taste.

There just isn’t the same degree of belonging and being linked and connected to a certain area.
