Who's up for some story sharing?

What's the closest you've ever personally been to death? In lieu of all the terrible accidents lately, and one particular incident that occurred yesterday, I'm reminded a little more everyday how valuable life really is.

When I was 3 I was in a bad fire. Now all that exists are scars on my legs. At age 13 I nearly lost my right leg in a motorcycle accident. But since, I've regained functioning. Then yesterday happened. Just a general bad day, honestly... a bad memory that led to drinking and apparently drunk football and I don't mix. I managed to get involved in 2 accidents, the second making me lose consciousness, and I'm not sure which caused it but this was the result and I've gotta say I'm very grateful to be alive. Definitely don't take life for granted guys.

Sorry to hear that Ana. Get well soon.

About 4 years ago me myself, had a very bad car accident.

I was speeding, about 130 km/h. The highway had 3 lanes, I was on the right lane and wanted to go to the middle one, At the same time another car wanted to switch from the left lane to the middle one. When I saw him I turned quickly back to my original lane (Right lane) and here was that I lost control of my car.

In that time I was on a bridge and on the side of the bridge they had these side bars to prevent you from fallind down.

So after I lost control, my car started skidding and hit the side bars on the right, then the car went back into the street and I hit a truck in the middle lane, then the car started spinning and went to the left side of the highway and hit the bars over there too.

I was unconscious and didn't see the whole accident. When I got up I saw smoke inside the car. Got scared and tried to open the door but it was stuck. Tried the passenger side, it opened and I got out.

My car looked like a chewing gum but thank god I didn't get hurt.

That taught me a lesson of not speeding again!

Got into a car accident a few years ago in Germany. I wasn't driving. My uncle was in the passenger seat and his friend was driving. We were coming out of parking lot onto a usually slow road and next thing I know I wake up surrounded by paramedics and firemen after being knocked unconcious by a car going 120 smashing into the side of our car. Instantly killed the driver and me and my uncle had to the hospital in an ambulance for precautionary reasons. Had x-rays on my head and whatnot. Turned out everything was ok thankfully but I was sore for quite a few months after. Uncle had no problems either but the driver was one of his best friends unfortunately. There was an article in the Baden-Baden newspaper the day after with a picture of the near-totaled car.

The only thing that saved my life was me putting my seat-belt on literally seconds before the impact. That and being on the right side of the car as opposed to the left side. Funny how little things like that make all the difference in the end.

Was 5-6 years old and hanging out in my sister's room. And she has a ledge right next to the window so I was standing by it. The window was open and we have a screen on it, and she told me she could hear the ice cream man coming. So me being the dumbass kid I was at that age I start leaning against the window trying to see the ice cream truck, and its pretty obvious what happened. So the screen popped out and i fell down 2 stories on my face.

Sprained both my legs and had a really bad bruised head, miraculously I didn't receive any brain damage (or at least thats what my family tells me ) and no broken legs, but I did have to relearn how to walk. I don't remember the incident much since I lost consciousness right away, but I remember waking up in the hospital and waking up again in my bed. Over the next few weeks/months I slowly regained my strength and was able to walk again, but yeah, one of the scariest and luckiest moments in my life to escape a 2nd story fall at such a young age with minimal temporary damage.

wow Pharoah  that's so sad in a cute way [the reason why, etc] - happy you came out of that okay, especially at such a young age.

I've had my share of car accidents as well but always walked away fine. crazy stories but glad you all made it out okay.

Pajo, I pulled a Chivu basically. Played in goal last night after an exam, jumped to punch a ball out while a guy behind me tried to head it... dunno why - but that was the first crash. Knocked me out for a few seconds, took me a bit to feel good enough to get up. Then 10 minutes after restarting our game, jumped to knock a ball over the crossbar, didn't jump right, lost my footing and crashed back into the post. That actually knocked me out and I don't remember anything from that til the just before my CT scan at the hospital like two hours later.

And thanks, everyone. I'm alive at least :)

You got a tear of brain membrane in the first knock out. the second hit caused the bleeding. You're lucky to have the pressure released on the same day. If you didn't you might damage your brain and cause several neurological problem from forgetfulness to difficulty speaking. Glad you are safe.

Well I have a bit of trouble speaking now but it's nothing terrible, and also in controlling my jaw [though I only had partial function of that to begin with]. Aside from that, I just shake frequently and always feel dizzy and can't remember silly little things - all of which my doctors said were normal. Also said we'll have to wait a few weeks and see if the damage is temporary or permanent.

Yes, they are normal. should be gone in the next 1-2 weeks but keep on practising which most people failed to do and eventually cause the permanent damage. If you have difficulty or feel you need to, you can try speech and language therapy and physiotherapy to improve functions.

Yeah trying to avoid speech therapy  already went through it after my motorcycle accident so I will just practice. Physiotherapy will be necessary as I damaged my upper back and neck as well, but that's okay. Happy you're getting to use your medical skills on me ;)
